i am thinking aout getting a front bumper made. my tow hooks are bent and the bumper is kinda bent up, not too bad though

a local guy can make whatever i need

that is not me on the right, that is the rubicon owner :smt027

it would not be a winch bumper, i only want the bumper to stick out a couple inches, a winch bumper has to be like 10"+ out. i dont have a winch anyways.
2" reciever hitch, 3/4" or 1" weld thru shackle tabs

undecided on the stinger, maybe not. obviously it would not be lime green ( it will be hot pink)

opinions.....

Personally I'd make the shackle mounts a bit thicker, I'm using a piece of 1" flat stock. Also mount them in front of the unibody mount.
I'm making my tow points part of the mount, cutting a hole in the material for the mount to pass through and welding the shackle mount to it that way.

why a receiver hitch AND tow points for shackles?

in case i want to add a winch mounted on a reciever hitch cradle later on
i highly doubt i wil get a winch,(rather put money into driveline) but something like this is what i am talking about

the shackle tabs should be closer to the unitbody mounts, good point

i just want something so i can bash into shit, and not reduce approach angles... basically :smt035

You can hack that front bumper/x-member and have plenty of room to mount the winch a-la NBawldwin and (I think) AtlZJ. You are right though - it does reduce your approach angle.

Here's a non-winch bumper with a small stinger that would pobably be pretty easy to build: (custom4x4fabrication.com)

Same thing without the Stinger:

There's a lot of sites out there here's two pretty good ones you've probably seen:
AJ's - http://www.ajsoffroadarmor.com/FrontBumpers/index.htm
C-Rok - http://www.c-rok.com/frontbumper.html (I personally dig the low profile one)

Good NAXJA Topic - http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39798&highlight=bumper

That will give you plenty of ideas to go from. Personally I think 3/4" clevis mounts is way overkill. There's no need to go any larger than that. I built my clevis tabs out of 1/2" steel plate. I allowed for 3/4" around the entire radius of the hole, and I thiink that's more than sufficient. I snatched a loaded 26' U-haul truck repeatedly to get if off of a stump when I was helping my buddy move and he got it hung up. The only reason I'd use 3/4" would be merely cosmetic. The clevis will stay straight if you make the hole in the tab oversize.

The biggest consideration with any kind of bumper or recovery point is how its mounted.

Check these guys out before you do anything, they have a winch bumper that only sticks out a few inches and not the 10 or more of most others.

This one would work a little better for contact info.

See... if you're willing to cut the grill - you'll have enough space for a winch.
