Whats up guys. About 2 months ago (7000 miles ago?) I switched my 2000 WJ I6 to synthetic oil (5w40) at around 90k. I was told this is a good idea, and maybe it is, but im not too sure now that I am starting to hear noises. I used to run 10w-30 and didnt notice the noises, but maybe I am crazy. They are mainly coming from the center of my dashboard, down by the ash tray (back of engine) When I punch it from take off, it sounds like something is straining and vibrating very abrubt. Almost like a very fast valve tap. Also, when I take off slowly, I get a vibration sound (its only sounds, not actual vibrations) at a certain RPM. Anyone witness this at all? Input would be appreciated, TIA.

Right, what could the pinging be caused by?

search JU, pinging is covered quite often. I'd say your problem is probably not caused by switching to synthetic, though.

Was it a good idea to switch to synthetic motor oil at 90,000 miles or would it be in my best interest to switch back to regular? I was thinking about switching all my other fluids to fully synthetic as well.

Once you go synthetic you don't go back. I switched at 120K miles and wish I did it sooner. The only switching you need to do is to buy AMSOIL from Cue.:cheer:

Without hearing the noise, I can't really judge who's wrong or not.
That's why I haven't guessed.

When I take off from a complete stop and reach about 4500RPM, the engine makes a very distinct WINDING sound. And it doesnt sound normal at all.

If it's pinging wouldn't it be bad gas?
