I'm starting to look into benders. This will not be an immediate purchase, but probably happen around April or May.

It'll see a fair amount of use, including:
Stingers to start with
An internal cage for my ZJ
Most likely a tube rear bumper
Lots of other projects for friends

What is everybody using? Give me the run down on JD2 and ProTools. I'll probably only start with a 1.75" die.

I used the JD2 bender. model 3. it was great but took alot of time. if i were going to buy a bender i would opt for the hydrolic setup with it. a couplehundred bucks and it will save you countless hours and effort. 1.75" is a odd ball size in industry. 4x4's use it alot but most tube shops only carry 1.5, 1.625, 1.875, 2.0. Dont' ask me why, but this is what i'm findidn otunow that i need some misc tube bent for my douve noze project. personnaly i liek the look of 1.75. nice and large. But for an internal cage i woudl use 1.5"

I have a Pro Tools 105HD w/1.75 240* x7" die...
Id have more dies except they are hella $$$
and I built my own stand so that saved $100ish

PT has been very good, not one single problem with it or the dies. I got mine from www.mad4wd.com (http://www.mad4wd.com) talk with Larry. He was the cheapest I found.

I have the EOR cage in my ZJ and its 1 5/8", 1.75 would be too bulky inside IMO.

If you don't mind, what price range am I looking at? I realize that I'm not going come close to saving any money by making my own cage, but I'd like to be able to recognize a good price if I come across one.

I'll keep that in mind about 1.75" tube being too large. That's what my tube doors are and it's pretty large diameter stuff.

Last year I paid around $700ish

I'll order this in the next 2 weeks:

protools hd105 - $282
stop & degree ring - $117
240° 2" x 6" CLR - $265

The bender is without stand and handle, to keep shipping to a minimum.

Thats what I got... Id skip the degree ring though... better off with a Level, and angle finder (digital)

Anyone out there make tubing dies for a HF Style pipe bender?
I got one for free, and figured I'd look into some dies if they existed. I think its a typical 12 ton hydraulic pipe bender. I might consider a cage, but I certainly don't want to make it out of pipe or try to bend tubing with pipe dies.

That's what I figured... but wanted to ask anyway.

I don't think I want to go down the pipe cage road - that's not something I really want to gamble with.

the secret to not kinking the tube / pipe is to draw it over the die not just push it in one side and hope it follows the die.

Pipe is fine for a cage, suspension, etc.

It's an arguement that will never have a right or wrong :D

Anybody ever try out this one? Looking to do some cage work along with crossmembers and such. Sounds like a good deal if it actually works...
