dude, it's a 44 housing with 60 stuff.

fwiw, you could put a 60 in for way less than you could build that hybrid axle, and you'd still have a stronger housing and differential.

Do they have this for the front?

I think kits like these are humorous. Especially Evolution kits that upgrade everything except your ring and pinion. You're definitely less likely to be breaking axle shafts and ujoints, but then you're risking blowing up your ring and pinion at the same time. No matter what you do to the axle you still have to rely on the stock gears. I'd rather replace an axle shaft than a R+P.

Stupid upgrade... but the ctm shafts are sexy!

60's are heavy. Not everyone wants to hang that weight off their rig.

The only thing I see wrong with it is the price.

Hmm, I've got an HP44 housing that I bought for $15 that I would consider doing this to. I think the kit could be pieced together way cheaper than what TCG would want. It all depends on what grade of parts you want...

FWIW, the strength of ring and pinions can be increased with chryo-treatment.

You must have missed this part of the article ;)

[quote]Overall weight is about the same as a dialed-in 60, but the clearance is much better.

I havn't ranted to much on the 44. I have not blown anything on mine. and i'm hammered on it....but its open.

that semas liek a wast of money. althought i'v always wanted to build a hybride axle.

This dana fortySIX idea, or whatever you want to call it, seems pretty silly... Might as well go with something with the larger knuckles, tubes, and of course R&P if you're going to drop the cash and carry the weight.

We'll see how I like my d44 after it gets 37s on either end of it, especially since I won't have the cash for alloy shafts for a while..

Probably about as much as Cody does and as much as I did before the 4340s and CTMs :D.

Kraqa, remember, it took me a year before I broke any 44 stuff. Once you get comfortable with your rig and really start pushing it (like, on stuff where you don't even have to ask someone if you'll need lockers--it goes without saying) then you'll break it.

fwiw, I haven't broken my alloy stuff yet---knock on wood. I have gone through a few hubs but that is by design. I've had it pretty crossed up and on the throttle where I know it would have blown before---so far so good.

still, if you're able to spend 1000 to set up a 44, don't do it. Do a 60. much cheaper in the long run plus the cost of piece of mind....
