I had a bad tranny when I bought my Jeep. I just finished putting a known good tranny in. I started it up and I hear a grinding sound coming from the tranny that just can't be good. I'm wondering if having the band adjustment too tight might cause this?
Is the T Case in neutral and your trying to run the tranny through the gears?
Band adjustment would be tighten the adjuster to 72 in lbs, back out 3 turns for the front and 3-3 1/2 for the back.

I tried it with the tc in 4h and n. I was shifting through the gears according to the haynes manual. It also lists backing off 2 turns for the front and 2.5 in for the rear. I used a torque wrench for the front but I didn't have any sockets that would fit the rear so I just tried to get it as close to 72 as I could going by how the front felt. Thats why I'm wondering if the grinding could be caused by band tension.
