I have a 98 5.9 and my heated seats don't seem to work at all. I was wondering where to start, check to make sure they are getting some juice?

Or could it be the switch on the dash where the OD button is located?

Thanks guys,
Dave

i dunno about yours.... but if i want my seats to warm up in my 94 laredo, i fart.... that usually helps... cept then i have to open the window and i get cold.... its a vicious cycle really....

Wasn't it typically a bad wire?

My 97's worked til' the day I removed them.

I farted one time to warm my seat up and it was all wet and gooey.

When I worked at the Jeep dealer selling Jeeps I was explaining heated seats to a guy in his early 60's. Once he realized what they were, he adamantly said he "did not want them because at my age I'd probably think I'd pissed myself!"

Seriously though, there was a thread about this a while back I think. I know Pam was asking around on how to fix hers. Use da search!

haha sorry.... its just funny to see this question on a mostly hard core offroad forum... here i am getting ready to turn my AC into OBA, and you are asking about heated seats... haha i guess if i had them i would want them to work, but my fat ass is always warm enough

there is a relay under the seat along with some wires that often get trashed. The wires are some really small guage shit and are kind of fragile so you could resolder them or just make bigger wires. Check all of your connections and switch. If they check out OK the dealer sells a heat seater kit for around $25. Here is a good pic of the wiring diagram.

Most likely it's one or both of the wires of the heating elements under the seat cover. There was a TBS on this back in 99. http://home.sc.rr.com/janet/TSB/08-03-99.htm

You can follow that or you can go in there and just resolder the broken wire. I would think it would break again down the road if it's just resoldered though. The wires are very small gauged. The new bolster wires from the TSB relacement part are a much heavier gauge & braided. They won't ever break. They are around $12 a kit. 2 kits per seat if you do both sides of the seat. Most likely only one side is broken.

As much as I hate it. Someone just posted a very good writeup on JU yesterday on the resolder job. Although when I did my drivers seat a few years ago I thought it was easier to pull the seat out & do it instead of leaving it in. http://jeepsunlimited.com/forums/showthread.php?t=681374

I bought the repair kit from DC a couple years ago... no prob since. The updated wires are more flexible and thus more resistant to breaking. But it is very much possible that you can fix the wiring without the kit.

I know this was a n00b question, but you guys freakin rock. Those write ups are going to save me a considerable amount of time.

Thanks again,

Where can I find the repair kits, are they specific to this application or just a general repair kit? I can't imagine that you guys would buy this from the stealership, so one of you guys had to get it somewhere aftermarket. Any links would be great.

Thanks,
Dave T

Ummm? Yes you get them from the dealership. The part# is listed in the TSB I posted. I also said they are around $12 a kit. Can't really remember the exact cost though.

One thing I forgot to say is that instructions do come with each kit.
