i changed my rear main seal a couple weeks ago and fired it up tonight. a frickin loud knocking sound is coming from down below. sounds like maybe the starter is not disengaging. i took the starter back out and took a look at it, all the gears seem to be fine and so do the gears on the flywheel. i have oil pressure so i don't think its anything to deal w/ the pump. listened to the oil pan and the transmission flywheel area w/ a stethoscope, oil pan is quiet but the latter screams. any suggestions?

make sure you buttoned down ALL the torque converter bolts - sounds like something is smacking...
also check for a bent dust cover - pull the cover and see if it stops - also check for scrapes on the flywheel
