No, we all have gas guzzling ZJ's.

Your mileage isn't all that different than a worn in ZJ 5.9 though, I wouldn't expect a heavier truck to do much better :D

the last time I had to drive a 5.9 ZJ for any amount of time it adveraged 18 mpg driving from Long Island to Queens 50 miles one way filled it up once during the week I drove it, it had like 250 miles on it though. Thats pretty good to me. 12 on the highway unloaded that sucks.

My 5.9 in the ZJ gets around 14-15 city and 18-19 Highway, but you have to keep your foot out of it too.

If your hammerin' on it I get around 12 :supz:

Don't think that the diesel will necessarily give you good mileage while towing. I averaged 10.7 mpg from VA to UT and AZ and back. That's with my 24' gooseneck, Jeep, 2 ATVs and gear loaded and my Dodge 2500 CTD is an auto with 3.73's. But, the diesel will tow the hell out of some grades.

our f350 with the powerstroke with get around 13-15 towing a 30ft travel trailer full of crap, plus it has a custom made by my dad generator mount of the front. which I must say is very slick.

I can calculate numbers like that on some towing trips too. All depends on how far you go with the trailer, the weight, number and incline of grades, etc. Just didn't want people to think that a diesel will necessarily give you better mileage.

Heres the deal my 03 Ram 1500 5.9L gas Quad Cab short bed gets around 12 mpg on the highway empty at 65 mph, my cousin has a 05 Ram 2500 5.9L CTD Quad Cab short bed he's getting 15mpg on the highway at 90 mph, 17 mpg in town, mine in town gets 9 mpg. A diesel Ram will get better mileage than a gas powered Ram. When I had my 95 F-350 Crew Cab Dually with the 7.3L Navstar Turbo Diesel it got 15 mpg towing a 40 foot race trailer with 2 Mustangs and a bunch of spare parts from NY to TN. Would still have the Ford if the price wasn't right for the car truck and trailer.

Understood but you all are mentioning 1 ton setup for the most part that will include steeper gearing. That alone will give you better fuel mileage towing. But at 75 MPH empty I guarantee you that the 3.73 setup will give better mileage (and event better if it wasn't an auto). Just trying to make the point that you have to take all things into consideration. Didn't mean to hijack the thread either.

My F-350 had 4.10's in it my cousins 05 2500 has 3.73's. My fuel hog Ram has 3.92's and it's a half ton.

My old roomate has a Hemi 2500 and he gets around 9-10mpg empty mixed highway/city.

Yeah I get annoyed a bit when people see my truck (Cummins) and they assume I get like 30mpg with it.... "Ah, you don't have to worry... you have a diesel, so you get good gas mileage" Empty I get around 16-17, pulling the Jeep around 14-15.

I got an 02 Duramax Xcab, long bed. I get 19 city and 21 highway. I have a semi light foot but im no pussy, i put it to the floorboard when i need to. Its all in your foot. THe differance of 1-4 mpg can all be in your foot. I get like 15 with a heavy foot in my zj, and like 18 if i just drive somewhat lightfooted.

Generally speaking that's what I get too, especially whan towing just my ZJ around here.

The 10.7 MPG I quoted earlier on my trip out west was truly a HEAVY foot... I had it mashed to the floor about 80% of the time and liked to get where I was going quickly.

Those sound like overhead console numbers. If you're calculating it the old fashioned way - those are good numbers. I just pulled down 17.5 MPG on a tank in my F250 (7.3L PSD, CC, SB - mix of city & highway), and I was pretty damn proud. Same tank - the overhead console said I was averaging better than 22 MPG.

My overhead console on the Jeep says I get 9-10mpg highway... which is about what I get.

i may be new to the ZJ world... But i actually calculate out my math... that thing that tell you what you get for mileage is useless... I have 31's on a 4.0 w/ 3.55's on my ZJ and my thing says im averaging like 14.5. But i can go jsut as long on a tank as i could when i got "21" mpg. In the duramax i did it out as well tho. I can go like, 3 weeks without puttin in a drop of dizzle.
