Here is what happens when the side post terminals get corroded. (not on the Jeep but still applicable).

Or the cables can get corroded and fall apart on the side of the highway at 4am in the middle of nowhere leaving you nothing to do but have a crazy bastard (read: Nate Cannon) hold the leads onto the terminal so you can start the vehicle and then drive an hour home on just the battery. It's really funny when you go to get gas too and use jumper cables to start the Jeep back up. One end on the battery terminal, the other end on the two positive leads, and then have someone come up and say "you know you need another car to jumpstart you right?"

one more reason not to use side-post terminals.

Dude, I know that battery is fukd, but it's bad to lay them on their side.

The original GM sidepost batteries were designed to be OK on their side. I forget which vehicle, but they wanted to ship them loaded on the trucks with the nose pointed in the air to fit more on.
