What is the best flowmaster muffler to buy for a 4.0 I6 Zj 97? And does anyone know any sites where they are sold cheap?

Thanks a bunch :supz:

I personally liked the 70 series. Good, deep, mellow tone, that's not too loud, and doesn't turn into a drone after an hour behind the wheel. That said, I could still set off car alarms just by driving through a parking deck.

The best thing about a flowmaster is the thing is tough as nails. Mine supported the entire weight of my jeep on several occasions. Granted it had the scars to attest to it, but it never cracked or flattened out. I just wish I could have figured out a way to make a cat. convertor as tough.

If you want something a bit louder go with the 40.

Since you live in Colorado you could go to Discount Muffler on Evans just east of I25. Chuck will give you a good deal.

I opted for a fully welded thick guage muffler that was more a copy of the flow masters for my 4.0 WJ. Basically it was installed with 2.5 inch tail pipe to make more of a cat back set up. It was welded on not bolted. It sounds decent for a 4.0 and was less than 250 fully installed with tax.

Just an idea.

I have the FM 50 on my XJ and 70 on my ZJ. They are both 4.0's. A loud muffler is very cool when you first install it but the novelty wears off quickly once you realize that you can't be heard or hear in the passenger compartment. I found the 70 series a fair compromise. Quiet is actuallty a good thing.

I run the 40 on my 4.0 and it is loud. My wife and kids can here me coming from around the corner.

I have gotten used to it and actually like it alot.

Another FM40 delta here. It's loudish I would say.. With a turndown immediately behind it, I can get car alarms going.. I put the same muffler I have on a 2001 XJ that has the 4.0 also and even though it should sound the same as mine, they sound slightly different.

I ran a FM40 Delta before the LA's. After the LA's I just run straight pipe from the CAT to the back. It isn't that much louder and will save you some cash.

Yea I have a turndown right out the back of the muffler and I set off car alarms all the time.
