I have a 97 TSi with manual Climate Control. My Stock Manual Climate Control is going south. Since I live in the Deep South where the Heat Index is 106* today (with 95%+ humidity) I really need to repair so my wife and 3 month old son will ride with me.

I am trying to see if replacing with Manual Control would be best or upgrading to the Auto Temp Control.

What would be involved in upgrading to the Auto? I like being able to switch to Recirculate on any setting versus only one Recirculate Setting on the Manual Switch.

Is this simply a plug-n-play with the Control Unit or am I missing sensors as well?

Give me your thoughts on this.

why not find out exactly what it "going south", go yank one from the junkyard, and replace it. no sense in complicaing things.

Definitely not just a plug and play with the controllers. Possibly might need a whole new heater box, but definitely the wiring harness and what ever computer module it needs to run it. The harness has different plugs at the controller.

My suggestion, unless you find a complete set-up, is to fix what you have.
