id like to do a exo cage tied into an interior cage, living on the vigin islands has really opend my eyes to appreceate what i had access to before i moved from ny. i whent to a local steel/fab shop. they have all kinds of plate steel and aluminum, and the largest brake ive ever seen, im gonna try to snap a pic of it, anyways there charging $6.50 a foot for scd 80 1.5" tubing. no im not lying. so with a little reasarch i could get it from a plumbing store much cheaper but without shipping it from san juan i dont have access to any other types of tubing, so i just wanted to hear what you guys think about it

IMO schedule 80 would not be subsantial enough for a roll cage.

I just made my cage out of PVC. So much cheaper, and pipe dope compound won't catch your interior on fire.

:finga:

For real though.. why skimp on some shit that might save your life? That's not very smart.

Search POR for a Sprinkler Exo Cage.

Lots to read and learn.

I think sch 80 would be fine. Brook's buggy is all pipe...

SDCH80??

check my pipe specs in the writeup sexction. that shit is liek 3/16" thick and weighs liek 5LB per foot. why not build a cage out of cinderblocks. peopel use SCH40 pipe for cages and with a properly designed cage it can work. not recomended but it can work. but why skimp on a life saving peice of equipment. when you buy a harness for climbing a mountain you buy a proper one you dont' make one out of yellow nylon rope. althgouh it probably woudl work but its not safe.

ERW is cheep and way stronger then pipe. Thats what i used. now if Matt woul upload my ERW specs then you woudl knwo what to use.

Pipe is gay. Hrew is okay. Dom is the shit. The end.

erw is what id like to build it out of, im just not shure i can get it on the island, i was more worried about body damage then my life due to the nature of the trails here, for gods sakes i dont even have lockers yet- im just trying to figure out if its a feasable idea- if anyone would like to ship enuugh erw tube to me to build a full exo with interior tie ins and for a rear bumper for free id do it!!!!, whats the diffrence between erw and sced 80 anyways? carbon content? or other?

k first of all lets get one thing straight DO NOT USE SCH80. sch40 is the common pipe SCH80 is twice the weight. if your going to make a pipe cage use sch40.

i was thinking 80 around the fender openings and for the rock rails, then 40 for the rest

.120 wall ERW is not nearly as brittle and it iw cheeper then SCH80 pipe.

What is wrong with ERW its lighter cheeper the SCH80 and abotu the same as SCH40 and its built to way better tolerences and better material.

if you have your heart set on pipe then throw the idea of SCH80 out the door. don't waist your time.

once again, if i had my choice i would build it completely out of hot rolled tube, because yes in the states its the same price but here it would cost me at least 4 times as much as pipe here bc its not availiable, i would need to have the tubing crated and shiped here. pipe i can go to the store and buy. basicly it would cost me twices as much here to build it out of erw then it would cost you to do it out of dom there- the question was can it be done out of pipe and be able to support my 5k lbs rig in a flop, thats all-

if you properly design the cage then SCH40 would be fine. SCH80 is just plain stupid.

do you think the 40 will hold up to rock rail abuse? thats where i wanted to use the 80
