So you all know me somewhat by now. im that punk-ass kid with lots of smart-ass/dumb-ass posts and no real knowledge on Jeeps compared to most of you gurus. :prayer: o ya, my real name is Scott, not norton. Scott was already taken when i signed up so i looked to my left (saw norton anti-virus software) and voila.

I figure its time that I finally started a Journal. My shit isn't very cool, but for those who care (prolly just me) .. here goes. Its my first Jeep.

Baby pictures (just got it) all nice and perty. had been driven by a mall cruisen soccer mom for its first 89,xxx miles. still had the mad tight bug deflector and everything. :supz:

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/9249/10505303zb.jpg
http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/6007/10505295oy.jpg

first thing i did to it was upgrade the stereo. Pioneer HU with 4x 6.5" Pioneer 3-ways. ive never been a fan of subs .. i dont listen to crap with a silent 'c'.

I did a SHITLOAD of mudding over the next 4-5 months with some perty close to naked GY AT's. only had her stuck 2x. ive had it sliding sideways, covered in mud (inside and out), jumped it, etc, etc. lots of good fun.

http://img305.imageshack.us/img305/5690/10606239le.jpg
I really like this next one, looks like it coulda been used for a Jeep commercial or something. it was my desktop backround for a while.
http://img305.imageshack.us/img305/2459/10606271vm.jpg

for some reason i let my friend drive it drunk and somebody hit him. no damage other than the loss of the front pass side door moulding. replaced it for $42 shipped from a salvage yard in nebraska.
http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/7655/10707807hz.jpg

then one day during some drunken mudding i was going thru a spillway/creek/something muddy and the bumper got caught on something and was smashed to pieces. some of it is still in my friends field. boo fawking hoo.
http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/6658/10707497qj.jpg

On July 4th of this year i woke up to find my windshield looking like this:
http://img305.imageshack.us/img305/3062/11212252is.jpg
i ate some valium and drank alot. dont ask me how it happened exactly, i just know i need a new windshield :toimonst:

most recently i got these 30x9.50 BFG AT KOs from a guy on my local forums. they have about 45-50% tread left and cost me 80 bux for the 4 of em.
http://img349.imageshack.us/img349/2047/10909129nj.jpg

and now for your viewing pleasure ive gots lots of wheeling pics from after i got the 30's put on.

not to be a killjoy but i wouldn't advertise that you were "mudding" drunk or popping valium while getting hammered. just not a good idea. jeep looks good though, you ever been to tuttle creek?

I've been up there, but not with my Jeep. I plan on taking it up there after i get some tow points. should be within the next month. but like the title says not much gets done very fast, and dont expect it to. im broke as fawk.

thanks for the advise. but im not the first to talk about mudding drunk on here. and all this wheeling is on private property, not an ORV. I'll NEVER drink and take my Jeep on the roads or to an ORV park.

fixed it

LOL your good at 'treading lightly' :supz:

speaking of radiator hoses and leaking .. i drove thru a lake yesterday out at my friends land and hit some mud that pushed the pass bottom side of my radiator back about 1/2 an inch. made the fan-shroud touch the fan blades so we did emergancy surgery on it and yanked it out. then when i got to this females house and turned the Jeep off it started pissin green all over the ground. i turned it back on and drove to the gas station and left it running to go inside and i looked and it wasnt dripping anything. go back to chickies house and then it started pissing again. i added some water to my reservoir and havent had any more leakage AT ALL.

wierd i know. just thought id rant

no seriously

and im not gonna buy ur BB for 750

nice try.:finga:

i think ima go buy an xbox when i get out of class (im at lunch now) and get halo2 and xbox live. ive been wanting that shit for a while.

i will still buy ur BB though. even though i gots lots of money i dont think i can pour all of that into the Heep. i will be buying some 15x8 black steelies kinda like urs and some 33x10.50 bfg MTs (5 of each woo hoo spare)

its time to do some wrenchin holmes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

jdoom
09-19-2005, 03:43 PM
Well i'll be wrenching all weekend. i actually have a whole weekend off from work, well except for sunday night but still, this is AMAZING. my gf is going up to lawrence so i won't be w/ her either. looks like all friday night and all day saturday i'll be working on the jeep. i just ordered new races for my joints so hopefully they will be here friday so i can rebuild all of those. i also plan on taking off all my stock shit so if you want to come over, we could prolly put the bb on yours.

09-20-2005, 01:01 AM
with that kinda money why don't you go buy yourself a real lift?

norton
09-20-2005, 07:20 PM
because im spending about a grand on those wheels/tires. the rest of that moeny is gonna go toward other stuff. I think ill buy some steel and such. Jordan .. wanna help me build sliders and skids?

ill start piecing together a "real" lift as I go (8 adj arms, adj trackbars, blah blah blah). prolly want to be at about 5-5 1/2" and i can still wheel with those 33's for a while till i get an 8.8 and a 231. then its 35s

you'd be suprised, it sounds like alot of money but when you start looking at stuff to buy you realize you can only get so much. id rather be at 2" w/ 33s and skids/sliders than be at 3.5 or 4.5 and still have to wait to get tires and skids/sliders. i just think thats best for me, but i guess not for Jordan? ur gonna look silly with 4.5 and 31's :smt064

jdoom
09-21-2005, 01:50 AM
yeah i'll help out w/ sliders and skids, and about bein on 31's. i'm picking up some used 33 mtr's on the 8th to last me till my axles and tc are ready to handle 35's

finally got that BB put on from Jordan. heres some post testing pictures. all i did was a little mudding out at my friends field. it was getting dark so we didnt get any pics out there and i didnt really try flexing it too much. im pretty pleased with it though. The shocks i got are rancho adjustables. right when i finished putting everything on i turned them up as stiff as they go and i took it on the highway. it was bouncing around like my brothers ricer. i have em set at 3 now which is just a little stiffer than stock. now i just need to get some tires

What blew me away this December was the amount of ZJ's on the road. My trip started from NC, KS, & TX and there were a TON of them, unmodded of course.

Here is a pic of 2 other ZJ's that were hauling ass with me from Salina thru Witchita. We stopped at a rest area & chatted for a bit. None of the owners thought it was possible to make our jeeps bigger. Mine is the white one, the other 2 had the same color too but so very stock.

you previously from here? i saw that you have family but didnt know if you were with them and left to do bigger badder things or something.

o ya, i also forgot to mention that there is a black ZJ floating around wichita somewhere with 33's, roof rack, and an ARB bull bar. ive seen him at quik trip like 5 times and always wanna go ask him whats up but whenever i come back out after paying for gas he has already left.

also forgot to mention one of my other friends has a ZJ lifted like 3" and has 31 thornturds. me and him used to take biatches offroad with us, smoke blunts, sip a few and well.. i think him having a ZJ is partly why i ended up getting one when i started looking at buying a Jeep.

anyways, thanks for the thumbsup guys :smt003

well its been since january that i did anything to the Jeep. I struggled along with those 30" 1/2 bald bfgs for long enough. I ended up getting 31's instead of 33's for practicality, and for the price. i spent $560 total. after that chunk of change i cant spend money for the Jeep again for quite a while. tuition ONLY this fall is going to be $1700. :smt013

at least she's wheelable, and thats good enough for me. i did some playing in my friend's fields/trails and they do just fine. I hope to be in Tuttle Creek on June 10th. come with me if you dare :driving:

Looks good though.

norton
05-30-2006, 09:24 PM
i dont play in thick goopy mud much anymore. i like rocks and trails. and yes they do suck in the mud, i had the same tire previously. i have to say even with the older 1/2 bald tires i never got stuck in the mud.

after further inspection of that front axle, it is not bent, but i need an alignment.

yup, i finally got to do some wheeling. this is where you can go if you have just a 2" BB and some 31" ATs. i was very pleased but now i just want to go bigger even worse!

Well, it's not that no one likes it, it's just that it's kinda ugly, is poorly attached, can't hold a winch, and is pretty much worthless as it sits right now on the jeep. BUT....it IS a steel bumper.

I vote to ditch the ladder unit you have attached there and mount a nice big 4x4 post.

i think its attatched pretty well, i tested it. i think that was a legal test. anyways...

its kind of not finished and my first attempt. pointers on what to improve on would have been more help than dumbass comments, but then again i realize half of you prolly havent done something like this anyways

First, The best way to fix it would be to cut it off and hope there's some material left for sliders(I'm serious, No joke here)
Second, A lot of us have done this kind of thing(well kinda, mine didn't look like that)Just because some of us decide to buy doesn't mean we haven't fabbed. My last rig was custom from head to toe. This one I can afford to buy/build. Still did some work anyway.
Third, Step back and imagine if it wasn't your rig and a bumper you built. Would it still be cool, strong, look good, etc. If you say YES. then I give up.
Fourth, At least you tried. Props for that.

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks to me like the only mounts holding that bumper to the vehicle are the two pieces of thin angle iron just welded flat to the face of the front x-member. If that's the case, then no, it is not attached very well. It may feel pretty solid, but without anything protruding through to the other side of that x-member, or without anything securing it parallel with the frame rails (ie. how the stock tow-hook brackets fit inside the frame), it wouldn't be very safe to use to tow from.

I understand it's your first attempt, and obviously it's all just a matter of opinion, but I think the great majority of people on here would agree that it doesn't look good on your jeep. It kind of looks like some abomination that Chad would come up with and then modify seven different times chopping pieces off and adding nodes until he liked it. Chad's a pretty strange fellow...he could get away with a bumper like that. Are you as strange as Chad? :smt117

What would I improve? I honestly think you'd be best starting over and using this bumper for rockrails, as mentioned...you could turn those into nice rockrails super easily.
For a front bumper to be worth building it should at least be able to be used as a tow point, or even better, hold a winch. Yours will do a decent job of keeping small trees or branches from hurting your rig, but that's about all it's good for.

Check out the archives on here or nagca or ju...there's all sorts of pics floating around on how guys built heavy duty front bumpers for their ZJ's. Get some ideas from them and build something a little beefier. Add some angles to make it a little more aesthetically pleasing and mount it with far larger/stronger mounts on the frame.

ill prolly end up using this thing as rock rails...

I don't think it is strong enoug to be used for a jungle gym. It would work fairly well as fishing rod holders for beach fishing:smt030
