Hey guys
Looks like my 242 is taking a crap I am faced with rebuilding the 242 or I have a 231 that I would rather go with. What I'm wondering is will I have to lengthen the drive shafts that I just had made for the 242 to fit the 231???

You'll be fine.. the difference in length between the two transfercases is negligable.

My rear shaft was to long when I switched to a 231...I just adjusted my control arms to give me more clearance.. Its only a small amount but it was enough to bottom my shaft out... It may be fine for you ... Give it a shot ...Worst case scenario you have to make the shaft shorter.. Thats relativly cheap..

measure them. trans mount face to end of rear output shaft.

i have pics of 249/242/231 side by side, and i'm not seeing more than 1/2" difference in overall length.

the 249/242 are out of zj's, the 231 was xj.

one thing that may account for needing a shorter driveshaft is that yj's used a longer slipspline yoke, so maybe the tailcone bit on the yj 231's is longer. ???

i went 249 to 231 with out d-shaft mods.
