I just got my OBA setup done, so I decided to pick up a 1/2" impact. Got it home, and realized I'd forgotten to buy the oil for it. So I put in some Marvel Mystery oil... Anyone else running this in your air tools? I know pretty much any oil should work in there, but wanted to make sure.

REally the best air tool oil is the marvel mystery synthetic air tool oil. We have used it on CNC machines when the MAK air valves have gotten stuck from rust and crud. It takes a air tool that is stuck and helps it out tremendously

I love that stuff too. I also like Kano Kroil - I've brought back donated dead air tools with that stuff.

We use MMO at work for our air powered hoists, impacts, etc. It's got a mil spec even.

Marvel is available in many places. I get my from Farm & Fleet.

Kano is only available from their website, AFAIK. www.kanolabs.com

Just picked up some marvel mystery air tool oil at Napa the other day.

Oiling air tools religiously before EVERY use will extend their life tremendously.

I don't often use the oil. Every now and then I oil them I guess, but not regularly. I know lots of people who are the same way too.

I use whatever light oil I have handy. WD, BLaster, etc. It all seems to get the job done.

It also depends a lot on what sort of filters and separators are between the compressor and the tool, and how much moisture is running through the lines.

I use a 3/8 inch drive impact about 5 minutes of use a day at least, at least 2 times a week, and I had one wrench last through 6+ years of use, trying to oil it with a few drops of some kind of oil ( usualy a silicone air tool oil, but sometimes not) while running it off of a small compressor and tank setup that would spit some water out of the line on a humid summer day ( and YES I drained the tank daily, it's just a crappy setup we get, but it's part of the work tools so they are all free)

From my observations, the people in my crew that oil their air gun regularly inthe morning usually keep it in working order for years (mine finally died after about 8 years of use) while those that don't are lucky to get about 2 years of useage or less out of it. The best combo is using some kind of dried air or in my case compressed nitrogen, along with regular oiling, as that will cut out any moisture problems when using the tools.
