Ive ben working on something like that out of plywood. I found one out of metal online but it was the price of a detroit. No thnx. I've figured the cost to make my own out of ply wood to be 30 tops. and the drawer guides(??) were 16 bucks. I wanted something like that so I can mount my tire on top of it and have a dainty drawr to slide out with all my Junk. :weedman:

I am thinking of doing the same thing. I like the drawer better than opening from the top also.

I may eventually do something similar for my ZJ. For now I just use a big rubber container type thing to hold all the tools. It's unorganized as all hell, but I can fit most of my tools, fluids, and some smaller parts in it. Bigger parts like axle shafts and such go under where the back seats would be. I took the lower part of the back seat out, have the hi-lift and spare shafts down there, then the storage box and cooler on top of all that ratchet strapped or bungee corded into place. It takes up the whole backseat, but I rarely have more than one passenger so it works out okay, and my spare tire works out as a good 3rd seat in a crunch, lol.

where in NC are you?

I'm going to build one some day. but mine will utilize the dips in the floor pan where the back seat is / was. It will be steel too.

IMHO, the best plywood is Baltic Birch in 5' X5' sheets. It's a little hard to find. Usually can be found at hardwood supplier's. All plys are about 1/16" or less and all birch with no voids. 1/2" is 13 ply and 3/4" is 21 ply I think, and about $28 & $34 a sheet. The edges look like the plywood used for school desks, etc. A little more money they 3 or 5 ply pine... but is much stronger and better for joints. I use it for custom cabinets, boxes, shelving systems, etc all the time.

I did kind of a basic cargo shelf, just so I can keep my shtuff covered in the back. (Big enough for the spare, but I usually have it on top and keep tools, fluids, etc. underneath.)

Can't make up my mind, but I'm thinking of taking out the rear seats and making some drawers and slots for tools and spare parts. Maybe in the spring. . .

Pretty basic, but I have a little more detail on it at jeepsite.net/cargoshelf (http://www.jeepsite.net/jeep_story10.html)

I'm actually curious. How many of you haul all of your camping gear around with ya? Right now all my stuff is neatly stacked, but I would like something that could conseal it. Walmart has the huge rubber maid tub's, but I don't think it would be enough to hold 2 sleeping bags, 1 tent, 2 chair's, blow up bed (for the gf....VERY comfortable though I must say), buncha hand tools, socket set's etc etc... I like how Scamper did his, but im curious if someone may have other idea's on how to conceal stuff for those of us that arn't set up for 4x4, but more for Camping, going out and about Daily Driver kinda scenario.
