Well my ZJ is getting closer to being done, but I still dont have any brackets on my new axles. I scrapped the 30/35 without cutting the brackets off. What im wanting to do is get some 1/4" radius tabs from tabzone instead of using used brackets. I definately dont want to buy a whole $350 set from clayton, MORE or rubicon because Im going with a truss in the rear and I already have a trackbar mount in the front that Im going to use.

My question is will i be alright using the tabs? It would be a lot cheaper, im just worried about durabilitly since theres not much lateral support.

You will be fine with the tabs. Just make sure someone who is a damn good welder sticks them onto the tubes. If you're really concerned, gusset the outside of them somehow, but I think that would end up being more ghetto than effective. Oh and Rocklogic4x4 and BlueTorchFab both sell very nice tabs for good prices.

What type of joints are you running? 2X2 box tubing with one side cut off worked well for me and my johnny joints.

Im running 2.5" johnny joints in the rear and RE radius arms in the front. What should i do in the front? I was thinking of making a bracket to tie in both the uppers and lowers into one, but it looks like that would bind pretty bad. I dont really want to weld to the pumpkin, but I dont like any of the front truss designs ive seen

I think Troy was referring to 3"x3"x0.25" box tubing (2.5" ID).

I used a 3.5" hole saw to cut about 10" of tubing in half (to make the radius to weld to the 8.8 axle tube), then used a 2.5" hole saw to cut out a circle in one side (with the center about 2" in from the non-radiused side). Cut out the remaining bit of steel, drill your bolt holes, round the corners a bit, and you've got a really clean and fancy looking piece of 3x3 box tubing with one side cut out.

most of my brackets are from 1/4" flat bar cut with a band saw for the radius. i also ordered tabs from BTF, but i didn't notice they came with a 5/8" hole so i had to drill out my bushings.

Here's some ideas for the LCA/Spring mounts

And then make some spring retainer stuff to go ontop of the box tubing. I'll need to figure out how I am going to bend it but for my rear truss on my next axles, I'll be doing something like this:

Hope it helps
