Im running a waggy 44 front and im building a 14b rear. I've already got chromo shafts and all up front so is there any way to keep the same outer shafts and get the 8 lug pattern?

go to the Mr.Dana web shit. IIRC you can you ford knuckles. you will need to use the ford outer shaft tho. the waggy one will not be the correct length and will not meet up with the ford hubs.

i went to MR. N's if thats what your talking about... he doesn't talk to much about this.

Kraqa do you know if the spindles are the same for a ford? ie. are they held on with 6 bolts like my waggy and will the ford rotor/hub fit on my current spindle? I can accept having to change outer shafts, no biggie there, i just don't want to change my knuckles, im already running chebby flat tops. thanks for the input man.

the ford 8 bolt are 5 bolt

even if you could make the spindle work you would still ahve to address the breaks. I doubt the ford hub/rotor would line up with the chevy calipers.

probably easier to get the ford knuckes.

i looked on ifjsa and it seems you can change to 8 lug w/o changing knuckels.

thanks for the help :partyman:

one thiong to concider is that sometimes in a swap, if you are faced witha couple of difrent roots keep all options open. if you raiming for just chevy spindles keep your eye open for complete ford knuckles at the wrecker. sometimes it is cheeper and faster to take the alternate route.

orrrrrrr..... *gasp* adapters. Actually I have no clue if they exist or not, but it's worth looking into though. They can be super expensive but I would imagine they could be done in a one piece. The ones I need for the rear of mine are like 300 bucks and are two piece and will give me 2 more inches. I dont' really care though.

i've asked the guys i normally buy spacers off of and they said that the 6 to 8 lug adapter cannot be made because the two patterns intersect. what i could do is change the front to 5 lug and buy 5 to 8 adapters but i just don't like that idea any more than just switching whatever it takes to make it a true 8 lug. i'll post what i end up doing..

Thats how the rear on mine is. 5 lug to 6. It has to be a 2 piece. I'm not big on spacers myself, seems like added stress. Aaron seems to think it's fine though.

You can use F250 knuckles and brakes. They use a large bearing spindle, so get the spindle with the knuckles if you can. They have large double piston calipers and large rotors, so you'll have to run the F250 stuff all together from the knuckle out. Plus you have to have at least 16 in wheels to clear the calipers. I can snap some pics tonight of my F250 knuckles and calipers if you want.

I've found an f-250 d44 CHEAP, i guess what i need to know: is it possible to grind the calipers to be able to use 15" wheels?

MrFreeze5

I wish. I just got my F250 knuckles from a friend. I was originally going to use F150 supercab flattops that still use 1/2 ton brakes and 5 lug, but instead Im going 8 lug and building a super FF ford 9" to match, so I have to go get new wheels and tires now and am stuck with some 35s on 15s with 5x5.5

hmmm, so there's no way to fit 15's? i bet it can be done, spacers or something the like

MrFreeze5

Maybe with 0 backspacing. I just finished setting up a F250 D44 for my buddy SAS on his S10 a few weeks ago and he is running Humvee wheels(16.5") with 1.5" spacers, and its still pretty close.

Kraqa

its called a grinder. I have 1 ton breaks on 8 bolt ford f250 d44 with 15" rims.

thanks kraqa thats all i wanted to hear. and just for the record they are brakes.... breaks is what your jeep does :weedman:

MrFreeze5

what BS are you running??

zjeepin
07-12-2005, 03:36 PM
im running 4.5" backspacing. the current setup is 2" backspaced wheels and the wheel is at least an inch from the caliper. im planning to run a spacer up front to get the correct width, hopefully a little wider than the 14b.
Bottom line, I don't think running 15's will be much of a problem, thanks freeze

Cool. if you can get away with it do it! im gonna have to take some measurements at home tonight. Crane just delived my inner knuckles so Ill be putting my 44 together in the next few days hopefully

zjeepin

im certainly going to give it a shot. i'll let you know what happens hopefully you can run those 35's and not be stuck with something you can't use :partyman:

My project keeps changing at this point. I was originally going to run a 44/9" combo 5x5.5, but then I started working at Spidertrax and Im gonna get hooked up with a Spider 9 housing and Im gonna build it for 35 or 40 spl, chromo shafts, FF, 8 lug and I can do it for about a grand minus all the 9" parts I have now that I'll sell(shafts, 31 spl detroit, 4.56s) So I was kinda planning on switching to 17" wheels. My Spider 9 will have F450 35 spl front hubs with 1 ton rotors from the front on the rear. It will be BEEFY. I dont believe in breakage. Im putting it all together in a few weeks along with a 5.2 V8 swap and tranny. Ive got all the F250 front stuff from my buddy for nearly free, so might as well use it and it shoudl work out a bit better for hi steer too. Its not too big of a deal to switch wheels and tires since I bought 4 xterrains and 4 steel wheels for $140 total, so Im not out much and Im about to install a lift on a friend's bronco and she can use them

so i found an f250 HP44 for CHEEP :supz: , and its got flat top knuckles on it too. Im just going to swap everything including the knuckles. I was hoping to find a solution that involved reusing my new chromo outers but for the price of the HP44 i can afford new chromo outers.

thanks for the input guys :partyman:

Well, 15s dont matter much for me anymore since I just picked up a really nice set of 17" 8 lug alloys off a Dodge 2500 for really cheap. <happy dance><happy dance> Plus I just ordered my F450 front hubs to put on my rear axle. Can you say massive brakes...hehehe
