Okay, as you might now I am building an HP30/8.8, the 8.8 has a PowerTrax no-slip in it already (that's how I bought it) and the front right now is a bare housing.

I have the 249 TC still (yea I know it's a POS, but it is what I've got). So if I were to through in a Lock-right or a no-slip in the front how would my street driving be, this is my DD after all and I need something that runs fine on the street.

No I can't afford an ARB, nor would I want to spend that kind of cash on the HP30 anyway, I am looking for something cheap, I just think it might be stupid of me to put it all together and leave it open.

Any opinions, or personal experience?

Thanks.

Dirk

you wot be able to steer much at all with the lockright and the 249

i would go with the lockright and the 231

or the 249 and a powerlock(spicer) or trutrac(detroit)
both lsds

231 and aussie locker. I just threw one in. I have manual hubs but from what I have played with it, I like it a lot.

Right now I am stuck with the 249, I plan on putting in either an Atlas or one of the 3 speed Stak4x4 units, but that will not be for some time.

I was hoping to get away with a lunchbox type for cost savings but have looked at the TruTrac also, might end up with that one.

I got my ARB for $200 used. They are out there. For what it is, I like it.

Dude... like LouZJ said the Trutrac is reportedly the least noisy/road friendly. Or just get an OX and wait for the 242.

If you can afford it, there is a ARB on Colorado4x4.org for $500 for a D30. It includes everything even the the compressor and switch.

i can tell you that with a 242 in full time and a lockrite in the front and unevenly worn swampers, it sucks! been driving like this for about 30 miles and can't stand it. costing is ok, but as you accellerate it pulls to the side of the smaller tire... of course my alignments already out of wack in that direction so it pulls pretty far. then you let off the gas and it tries to go back, stop and go traffic is so much fun. i can't wait til these gears are broken in.

lockright and 231. Cheapest solution.

Not trying to hijack, but.....can you not put a lockright in the front with a 242 and still run Full Time?

it will bind up just like a 249 in FT

however in 2wd it will be invisible

Throw in a 231 and a tera 2-low kit and you pretty much have a selectable front locker.

its not too bad to put in a locker, just leave it open until you get the new TC in and that locker you have stowed away will just be an extra hour to put in and you'll be done with it.

Elliot,

I am sure that is what I will do, I have spent alot of money alread and a front locker was not in the plans anyway. I will most likely remain open and when i get a new TC (next year maybe) I will then go with a front locker and full Detroit in the rear.
