I've been up under my Jeep taking mesurments for my long arms that I am going to build and notice that to keep the arms inline with the stock position they should be mounted slightly inward of the "frame rail" where most people mount theres. I see a lot of XJ's with the LA mounted on their crossmember but havent seen any ZJ's like this. What is the reason. Is there any advantage to moving the arms slightly outward or do most people just not mount them on the crossmember so working on the tranny won't require unbolting the suspension?

do not mount them on your tranny cross member. Unless you beef up you mounting system and build a xmember out of something alot stronger.

i kept the stock x member but modified how it mounts.

i'l post pics once i can sing into my photo bucket

Mounting them inside the framerail at or near the crossmember does have its advantages (ie, less impact on turning radius and more available uptravel). I think the biggest reason we don't see it more on ZJs is for the sake of simplicity.

Its easier to just mount them on the bottom of the frame rail sleeve, than to come up with the complex bracketry that would be required to mount them inside the framerail (and still be structurally sound).
