What grade fluid for an 98 explorer 8.8 w/ limited slip. I was at Advance Auto and Autozone and both said I need to use Ford fluid's. Is this true, I can't seem to find any info on this. I can't wait to call ford on tuesday. Installing my new HP30 on monday and got new fluids for it. Figure change both while I'm dirty. Thanks

75w-140 or 85w-135/140 etc synthetic is the ford speced fluid
you are going to want to add 4oz of the ford friction modifier if it is lsd
75w-90 80w-90 will also work in it, that is what used to be speced, but they now recommend the heavier stuff
80w90 is what I run. Really for the most part a diff will be happy as long as there is nice clean oil in there.

Get friction modifier from the dealer while you are there... :smt003

Amsoil Severe Gear gear lube. AW is running it in his 8.8, and I will be running it in both my HP30 and 8.8 once they get installed.
How much is that a quart?
I just got 8 quarts of Valvoline synthtic 75w140 for my truck and it was like $10 a quart  I checked Amsoil (sell it on base as the gas station) and it was $14 a quart

List price is $12.20 per quart. I could get it for you for about $11 per quart +shipping.
So for 8 quarts it would be right about $100 with shipping/tax/etc (atleast to the lower 48 states, not sure about Alaska)
