Sounds like fun.

Maybe Red Cone will be open and we could do Twin Cone, then up and over Red Cone to Keystone on the way home.

Sounds like a plan to me. Oh, here's a link to Sundays run to Webster, Radical & Bill Moore Lake. If some would do a writeup on it in the trip reperts that would be good. I'm just not that good at detailed reports.

Cool pics! You can really see how deep that snow drift is at the top of Webster Pass.

Your coming down to 285 and then heading west right? Just west of C-470 is the Hwy 8 Morrison Evergreen exit. Get off there & The fort is Just at the top of the hill. Well wait for you there.

Wish I could join y'all, but I have projects I have to do around the house this weekend. We did Twin Cone over the 4th, it was beautiful!

The fort works best for me as well since I will most likely be coming down from Evergreen on Saturday. If you guys leave at 9 from Boulder, you'd be at the Fort by 9:30-9:45. Scott, I'll meet you there around 930. John, since you are coming from Boulder, can you show them how to get to the Fort? It would really be helpful to meet there too so I won't have to go an extra hour out of the way to meet when you guys will drive right by me...
Let me know if this will work.

Looks like I might be on the other side of town in the morning, so I will meet you at the Fort at 9:30am.

Boulder group, please swing by and pick us up. It's gonna be fun!

I'm up for seeing if Red Cone is open going from South to North side after Twin Cone. Long day, but we were denied last weekend.

Yeah we should do Redcone too....

Looks like the damn boulder group is just me.
I'll be heading down to 285 like you said, so hopefully it'll be easy to find the fort. I'll leave myself plenty of time in case I have some trouble, and if all else fails I'll hang out on 285 and wait for a group of GCs to roll by.

That sucks.
Use Scott's map, should be easy to find. I can PM you with my cell phone number if you like.

Looks like 4 for Twin Cone/Red Cone loop. It should be fun.

How difficult would this trail be with a rig that's open/LSD with a BB and 31's?

Its rated as a 5, correct?

zjmike4
07-08-2005, 05:48 PM
You should have no problems. I have done both trails (Twin cone and red cone) with a stock ZJ on 29s and made it all the way through both. I think it's rated a 5 and the one little area near the top has a bypass, its just really nice up there. Red cone is rated 7 but i think that is overkill, its not really that hard, its just the pucker factor of the last steep descent.

I just called the Forest Service and red cone is open!! :supz: The exit is through Keystone because Webster and Radical hill are obviously still closed. I say we hit Red cone on the way home, wouldn't take much longer...

See you guys at the Fort tomorrow morning.

Yes! Let's hit Red Cone on the way home. See you in the morning.

Made it home OK. CrisT & I got the 5.9 unloaded & in my driveway by 8:00. Just so anyone that was not with us to day, I broke the drivers Side ear off the steering box. Was able to ratchet strap the back of the box & make it down to the highway where CrisT picked me & the 5.9 up. Thank you CrisT!!!!!!!!! :smt059

Oh& thankyou Corey for letting here come up.

How was Red Cone? :smt009

FINALLY!!!! Someone else's busted ass ZJ on Corey's trailer!! LOL Just fawkin with ya Scott. What are you gonna replace the box with?? I think mine is on its way out, nice little clicking noise, thinkin 621MR.

EDIT: The sad part is though, that's two recoveries that have been made from Twin Cone . . . . . a relatively easy trail!

Yea, I was so hoping not to ever ask or use their sevices. Almost made it to the top. :smt009

I was thinking of the 621mr too. Or a waggy box. Don't know yet.I still want a stock feeling steering. The thing with my box was though, is that all the bolts were & still are tight. Well maybe the front two are a tad loose now. :smt003 I just hit the damn rock at just the right angle with the tire & tie rod so hard it "snapped" the ear off with a bang! I allso think that a steering box brace would not have helped in this instance because the pivet point of how the box now, is at the pitman arm. That's where the brace is so I don't think it would have helped. The damn boxes just need a forth bolt bamn it!

Red Cone was pretty sweet, some tight spots at the bottom and a really amazing view at the top. Unfortunately it was about 40 degrees with a lot of wind so we didn't stick around. Going down we decided to take another trail (not sure the name, comes out a breck) which was blocked by snow. I made a few unsuccessful attempts at it, and John made one attempt that almost turned into a flop. Under about a foot of snow was a sheet of ice that he slid off, and got into a pretty precarious position. Pics will come as soon as I get em uploaded, probably tomorrow.

Can't wait to see the pics. That trail is called Radical Hill. Thanks to you and Mike for getting my ass out of that. It felt close to being a flop.

Yeah that was a fun trip. It just kept getting crazier as the day went on. The steering box, the 2 hour "roll prevention", Tommy Knockers and girls trying to get John and me to by them drinks.... haha :drinkers:
