Ok... 98 Dodge 2500 with the Cummins motor.

I had a few guys tell me to pull the cat and muffler out and straight pipe it... better flow, better sound.

Anyone done this? I'd like to post on the Turbo Diesel Register board, but I'm not a member.

you can run 4" strait pipe off the turbo.

Yeah. I'm just curious on the sound more than anything. I don't want it to sound like ass.

I know of a guy with a ford diesel with a streight pipe and it is extremely loud. It sounds kinda flat and he gets pulled over all the time for disterbing the peace. But don't get me wrong louder is always better. :supz:

Well the powersmokes are loud and obniouxous to start out with. I hate the fucking things.

At least the Cummins sounds more like a big rig. Now straight piped, I dunno

None of my friends do it. They all run the 4" aftermarket stuff with low to mid range comp boxes. And their rigs sound awesome - their turbos spool and sound like big rigs'.

my buddy has an '02 cummins diesel with 4" strait pipe and it sounds awesome, pretty loud, but he also has alot of other things on it, nitrous, injectors, race'n trany, lots of other stuff, oh yeah it runs 12's in the 1/4 mile. prettys sweet. he's never had any problems get'n pulled over or anything, but we are in kentucky.

It will sound just like a semi because of the staight six (same motor design). For the well-trained ears, I'm sure there are slight differences, but generally the same.

Yeah I talked to one of the local CTD experts and he said.. "hell yeah.. do it!"

Do you have a 12, or 24 valve

I'm no diesel expert, but won't the lack of back pressure make it a beeotch to warm up in the winter? One guy in my club has a CTD for his hauler, with the 6 speed, and he has an exhaust brake type thing that he engages to warm it up faster in the winter.

Dunno about the warming up thing. No big deal. I have a block heater and a Carhart coat

Bought the pipe today... will do it this weekend. 4" pipe on that sucker stock :supz:

Do it---Its bad ass.

Also, get a MASSIVE air cleaner for it from NAPA, I think they are made by Doregenson ( I think ). Alot of the guys on TDR run them and love um, cheaper than an aftermarket aircleaner, and much more effective.

The combination between the open air cleaner and the straight pipe will be badass, you'll like it.

Haven't done it yet... been working on the Jeep, now the seals in the front end of the truck, etc. Maybe next week.

Did it this past weekend. Sounds nice, also freed up some power. Stock resonator and muffler were like 40lbs!

SOUNDS GOOD TO ME. I bought my powerstroke from the dealer with a straight pipe on it. It had a raspy and deep tone to it. I liked the way it sounded, but my friend's 01 Ram 2500 cummins truck with a straight pipe on it sounded way better. We both have since changed over from cut stock exhaust with straight pipes over to larger diameter pipe system with mufflers. I would suggest changing the whole thing if money permits, but that isn't always the case. After you get some sort of modified exhaust, buy a good programmer. You will LOVE it, mine adds 110 hp and 200tq. Did I mention better mileage? You can go with about anything with your truck. They offer 4",5",and 6" exhaust systems for your needs. The larger the pipe, the deeper the tone. I run a 5" system on my F*** and you can always tell my truck from a crowd.

Yeah I just did gears and a Detroit in the rear... got a Smarty (used to be Catcher ECM) on the way and some Mach 1.6 injectors as well.

my buddy marc did this to his 04 6.0 powerstroke f250 and its quite loud and annoying if you arent into "performance". I find it bad ass, but if you are towing the horses with your wife and kids to a reining show, i would leave the muffler and cat on.

No wife, and even if I did, she wouldn't be the type that would bitch about the truck being too loud :D

I don't know if it really helps it warm up faster, but I used to drive a t-600 KW and even in the middle of winter it only took two or three miles hammer down before the heater was blowing hot.
