View Full Version : TrueHi9
Some pics of my truehi9. This thing is beef and is only the 31 spline, 2.891 (carrier bearing O.D.) variety. I'll take some more pics once it's in and I have the driveshft in.

holy crazy high pinion thats cool. and its a tru 9" ring gear boo-yaa :supz:
And a spool too
Yeah, my currently spooled chunk has held up fine but I'm tried of destroying driveshafts. This should help get my driveshaft up above the lower long arms.
So it's running a 9" gearset. I rememebr the hi pinion 9s having 8.8 gears in them.
That's the goodness of the truehi9 - a true 9" r&p (but custom made for this setup).
Here's a site that does a comparison: http://performanceunlimited.com/illustrations/gears.html
and here's a the site on the product: http://www.truehi9.com

Wow... I always thought the 9" is a little weaker than a 60. I thought that is the reason why most heavy rigs go with 60/70/14b, and the SWB with 9".
Or is it because of the tubes/shafts? How do they compare to a 60?

a ford 9" theoretically can be made stronger then the 60's. with all the aftermarket stuff out there for them (alot due to the racing scene) you can get as mentioned avove. the tru high 9. up to 40 spline chromo shafts. the tubes are only 1/4" thick but since there is no cast center section it is VERY easy to truss it. the beauty of the ford design is that the lower gears you go the larger your pinion gets. and it have the third pinion bearing like a 14 bolt.
the main reason i see to go with a 60 of the bat is that it cost TONS of money to make a ford 9" crazy strong. the rear 60 is just a great bang for your buck.

Truhi9's are the (.Y.)'s
Currie HP 9's use the 8.8 ring gear and get pissed on by a Truehi9.
Installation pics are here:

i liek it . how close is you DS to your upper links?
i liek it . how close is you DS to your upper links?
DSCF0019.sized.jpg is a misleading picture... the perspective on it and the angle in which it was taken are not very good.
I didn't "notice" the proximity to the UCA so it's not bad. I'll see if I can maybe get a better picture.
The yoke will come no less than 2.5" away from the passenger UCA and about 5" away from the driver UCA.

Look close but i'm glad it fits. i like the pinion angle, keep us posted on the progress.

hey Troy, pictures & website link not working...?
so you got the 31 spline shafts too huh? good stuff/ who makes yours?
I got a problem w/ mine... I just had new bearings pressed on to remedy a leak on the left side... now the leak has migrated to the right side for some reason ; ( oddly enough I'm pretty sure I have the same seals in both sides... I even re-installed a new seal on the leaky right side.. still leak.. ever had a tube leak problem? how high do you fill up the HP with fluid and do you do a lot of road use with it.. highway even? I'd want to be able to run this monster on road trips that are at least 3 hours non stop straight driving.

Site is down due to the hurricane remnants that came through last night. I'll have it back up tonight.
My tubes don't leak, no problems there.
The truehi9 has two fill plugs in it. They are hex headed bolts and the manufacturer will strip out the hex on the plug that you will not need to use for your application. Since mine is in the rear, I fill it using the highest fill hole. Once the pics are back up check them out because I think I got side shots that show the fill plugs.
The manufacturer will set up your gears for either full off road application or on road application. I had mine set up for full off road.
EDIT: I actually use the lower fill plug not the upper one.

Full offroad... they just leave them noisey?
What's the difference?

 :smt042
No, it has to do with how tight they set the gears up. Since it also has a thrust block it comes into play too.

do you think you could get before/after pics of your driveshaft angle at the t-case end? thats the part I'm interested in fixing on mine ; )
looks good!

We just build a Spider 9 with the Hi-pinion for a customer's bronco.
The Spider 9's are still in the prototype phase and are not yet available to the public, but should be in the near future. Here's a few pics of a 35 spline with ARB set up for a 76 Bronco.

Finished pics. The pinion angle is within 5 degrees so I'm not going to bother messing with adjusting my UCAs. It doesn't look like enough to worry about. I tried to snap some pics of the t-case driveshaft angle... this is the best I could do. Also, sorry for the blurry shots of the angle finder.

wonderin the same thing, hows the spool on the street. btw waht did that 3rd meber set you back set up like that to your door if you dont mind me askin?
No street driving for this rig.
I wouldn't drive a spooled rig on the street... couldn't afford the tires it would go through.
Prices are on the site http://www.truehi9.com

Actually the pinion bearing preload, carrier bearing preload, backlash, and thrustblock settings all have spec ranges.
If someone is using our unit mostly for highway driving, setting up these tolerances on the "loose" side will assure them of a diff that will have long bearing life and run cooler.
If a person is using the rear mostly for abuse the bearings will probably never wear out so I set them up on the "tight" side for better gear stability and more strength.
Some diff builders don't take these things into consideration but why not give the customer the best possible product by asking them what their doing with it?
