Some of you have been folowing my post about the pkastic K&N tube warpeing.
Well I got my replacement tub last Friday took it out of the box and looked it over.
They redid it in a thicker plastic looks like 5mm compared to the 3 mm the old one is. Looke good I thought.
Took my old one off and tried to put the new one on, but the thicker plastic was hitting the raised parts of the TB. After som prying and a little trimming I was able to get to slide down onto the TB.
Pyt the nut with a washer on the allthread stud and tightened it down as tight as I could. Looked pretty good from the front but Ias I looked at the back there was about 1/4 inch gape between the tube and the TB.
So I took a piece of flat bar drilled a hole in it and weged the back under the cowle and tightened it down with the nut as tight as I felt comfortable with, still had about 1/16 gap in the back.
It looks like the base of the tube where it meets the TB is not cut straight.
At this point I am about done with K&N.
I wish some one made an aluminum angle that ould fit the TB and still clear the hood.
Any way if your thinking about buying the K&N kit think twice!!
Still waiteing for a call back from them.
I have some pics if someone wants to host them for me.

He's one of many having that problem, if they took the time to make a replacement you think they'd atleast to check that it was molded corectly :toimonst:

Thats right bury your head in the sand and maybe the problem will go away.

After spending over $200.00 I for one am a little disapointed!!

Blah, my home made FIPK works great and I don't have any ghey tube cracking problems.

*edit* and the filter is still K&N so I do have the lifetime warranty.

I had a K&N on my old ZJ, wasn't the greatest fit (had to file down part of the top a little so that it wasn't pushing my hood up), but liked the performance increase so I picked up another when I got a '98. Over the last 2 1/2 years, I've had the housing crack TWICE (no, I didn't trim these they actually seemed to fit), but both times they sent me a new one within a couple of days. While their customer service seems to be real good, I'm either unlucky or their design and materials are flawed.

Not that I'm saying K&N is bad, but there are more options than a few years ago, so I might look around a bit if I am in the market for another high-flow intake in the future. . .
