I'm at the point where is there basically no more band to adjust on my tranny. I read a lot of articles on bulletproof trannys using beefier components, but is there a way to bulletproof the 'ol 42RE? Either way, I'll be rebuilding the bastard, but I figured once it is out I might as well beef it up. If anyone knows of any articles or some reference to go by, that would be awsome.

You're rebuilding a tranny yourself?

Hit up the people at APS transmitions (yahoo search for them). They should be able to help you out with that.

level 10 bullet proof tranny is 2498.00 + 1000 dollar core for level 2, 2698 + 1000 core for level 3. Personally I like them.

What are the different "Levels" and what do makes each level better than the next?

There's level 1, 2, and 3. Level 1 is basically stock with heavy duty components, level 3 is bullet proof shit you can bet your life on.

That's how I found out about them, drag ZJ owners :smt003

They're where I got my torque converter from. Its only level 1 so its stock stall, but I shouldn't be breaking it anytime soon.

What symptoms did you have when your torque convertor went out?

AW got his from APS in Saratoga, NOT Level 10, and TRUST me you don't even want to know how much he paid for that beast.

I will be talking with Wayne from APS this week about some work I need on my 42RE.

Oh yea AW has the 46RE as he has the V8.

woah now. I don't have 500 bucks to spend on a new tranny, nonetheless 3,000. I was trying to find out where to buy the few components I need to beef up my 42RE.

Actually I would like to know! I might need something similar in the near future.

I had a real bad shudder & a grinding noise, I thought it was the torque converter. I put a new one in and still had the same problem, just a little less severe. I put in mopar ATF+4 and that took the problem even more away. Still happens though.

I forgot a few bolts in my dust shield on the front of my bell housing. When I tightened them down, my horrible noise went away. Ain't that some shit!!

Yeah, I was thinking that it was either that, or the CPS sensor was dragging against the flex plate. Tightened down that dust shield after pulling it off to see if the flex plate bolts had worked loose and were hitting the shield. Saw nothing, so I tightened the plate down again (this time using all the bolts and snugging them up) and the sound went away. Still got issues with the way my tranny is shifting. Seems to accelerate sluggishly unless I really stomp the gas, and when I do that it kicks down for a second and then bangs back into the next higher gear. Fuckin weird. I think the bands need adjustment, so I dropped it off at a shop tonight so I can pick it up sometime tomorrow. They'll flush it too, which isn't a bad idea considering I probably sucked some water in there.

Does he have the 5.9 if not he doesn't(shouldn't) have the 46re he would have the 44re for 96-98 46rh 93-95 v8 OR 93 aw4 or 93-98 42re with 4.0
