So I have a chance to get what I think is a damn good deal on a Hobart 120:

110V Hobart Handler 120 with Miller Cart, AirGas Silver Shield Bottle (full), Harris Gauges, Jackson Flame Helmet/Hood (new), and all related accessories including 'Piecemaker' gun, ground clamp, gas hose, and 10# spool of .30 wire.
READY TO WELD. $300.

Anybody have this welder? I had decided to just wait and go 220, but this seems like a nice price for a welder that I think would do everything I need it to for now.

Get the bender, skip on the Mig (not very many amps IE not a strong welder).

For anything I'd attempt with a 110v welder, I'm thinkin 120 amps would be plenty. If it's something major, like a cage, I'd use Corey's Miller 210.

I paid close to 500 for my Lincoln set up nearly the same way. Although I have an extra 15 amps on that Miller machine. I'm a Lincoln fanboy but that price is a damn steal if everything is in condition. It's those gas bottles that are expensive! If you're not planning on welding anything above 1/4" then 120 amps will be fine.

One nice thing about a 110 machine is that you can take it with you. Leave it in the motel room and have a long extension cord. I wheel with a few local guys that carry one and a chop saw. Amazing what you can do with just those 2 machines and some metal.

Second on getting the bender...

I absolutely love my Hobart 180.. I do realize that I just started welding, and therefore my opinion doesn't carry as much weight, but from what I can tell so far, it's a real decent machine... I'm glad I started with a 230V welder- I think I'd just feel that 110V was lacking. Oh, and also there is a huge difference in flux-core wire and using real wire with proper shielding gas flow. Wow, I didn't realize what I was missing until I got a chance to run down to the local welding supply shop and snag a cylinder. IMO, I don't see the sense in having a nice bender unless you have the equipment to burn tube together with right. :snakeman:

Dunno about a 120v welder. I have run close to a 12lb spool threw my welder in the past couple weeks and I haven't had 1 complaint about it. Lincoln 175 Plus. I've welded sheetmetal up to 3/8" with it.

Dave, for that deal, I say get it and if you hate it, I'm sure you could resell for the same price without too much trouble.
