mods feel free to move this. i looked all over this forum and could not find the answer for this. i have a shot 242 right now and have the chance to get a np231 for cheap. i have a 97 grand cherokee 4.0. i wandering what transmission do i have and if anybody would know that spline count on it.

Always a 23 spline count, dunno for sure about tranny, usually I suggest people just remove the old case to measure the input shaft before looking for a new case. Input shaft is really the only difference in the tcases bolting up, and some minor differences in shift linkage.

as far as the front ds will have to get a new one made. i am getting the tcase from tj. i beleive they have cv drive shafts in so my shaft should work shouldnt it :axe:

Depends on what you mean by "CV" shaft. People have misconceptions about those. If you're talking about the double cardan style with ujoints at both ends, it should work.

If you're talking about what people often call CV style (but it's correctly repzetta joint or something like that) - then I'm not sure.

Anyway, the front shaft lengths are just about the same.
