i guess i will ad this to the newbie section since a NOOB :finga: . my transfer is all f-uped. when i put it in 4 wheel drive and get on the gas it makes a loud poping noise like the chain is skipping teeth. my question is whether to rebuild it or look for a used one. (cost?) i am also thinkin of putting a sye in it while it is out. what are the cons of just goin with the hack and tap style rather then the output shaft replacement on? i have a 242 :supz: . does anyone have layin around they wanna get rid ?

Rebuild kit is like $100, plus another $60 for a chain.

Just rebuild it and put a good SYE in while you're at it. Might as well rebuild instead of a cheap used one since at least that way you know what you have. As for the The hack and tap, it has a strength problem and the kits aren't that expensive, just fork out the cash and do it right.
