just picked up this arc welder from a guy on my local forums. his name is rob and hes got a CJ8 with 38.5 SX's and a 350/turbo something tranny. He just upgraded to some new Miller welder, so he sold me this for $75

Its my first welder ... wednesday when i get paid i need to go get a mask still and then ima find some place to get some scrap metal so i can start practicing. I also need to buy a 220v extension cord so i can run it to my dryer outlet (my laundry room is about 6 feet from the garage)

so hows this look for a "my first welder" ? :partyman:

If you are welding MIG, you should be able to weld stick without too much trouble. Same principles. I started welding with stick, and one day tried out this fancy MIG stuff... haven't gone back :)

What are you going to weld that would need DC? 6011, 6013 and 7018 all work with AC.

The stick I learnt how to weld with had the stinger and ground on plugs, kinda like a guitar plug for the amp. On the welder (big sucker, like put 3 Lincoln gravestones together) there would be plugs for the different amps. Now the fun thing is that it was so old all the numbers were worn off... so you just have a bunch of plugs. haha. Was interesting to say the least.
