Haven't decided how to make it look less stupid but here it is so far...

It's growing on me, but there's still something I don't quite like about it...

I like it too. If there's something you don't like you probably want some plating on there to cover up the fugly stuff.

I like it too, but I'd like it better without the exhaust tip.

seems like it should stick out a little bit more to give you some tailgate/tail light protection but I like the design. I'd like to build a bumper for mine, but I have to wait til I get about 10 of these other unfinished projects done first.

You're right, it needs to go. I'll cut it back tomorrow before a rock gets it...

Do you have a wireing harness for pulling a trailer set up with it?

ELLLLLIOTTTTT

you should try something along these lines...

i fabbed up a bumper last summer and never posted pictures of it. this is a good time to do it, i guess, since i finally got a digi cam. give me about 24 hours (so i can take 3 finals in a row) and i'll whip em up.

I'm way into how lowprofile it is.

i like the low profile of it, too.

wouldn't it be good to add some protection for the gas tank just in case you get rearend (unless it's a trial-only rig or you have plans to move the tank)?

I think it looks really good, paint the bolts black and call it done.

Love the low profile of it.

I never bothered making a bumper for mine for this exact reason..

http://www.offroad-fabrication.com/products/bumper%202%20rollover.jpg

My reciever hangs down.. So I gain no clearance by building a bumper..

I do however like yours alot.. Looks very cool.. How is it mounted???

If you think that its Fugly ..Send it to me and make a new "less fugly " one..

Ill pay shipping.. :finga:

Take off the stock hitch, build a new hitch into the bumper, mounts in the same place the hitch mounts plus the stock bumper mounts.

here's a folder with a few more.

let me know what ya'll think

the only thing i dont like about it is the gap between the tail lights and top of the bumper, but that's because of the material I used to build it. no way around it, and it might even provide a little give before it crunches some plastic in an impact.

mounts are 2"x2" 1/8" to protect the unibody (will give before the frame, hopefully) and the body is 2"x4" 3/16" , and 1/8" plate here and there to cap the tubing. grade 8 bolts run through the skidplate, hitch, frame, and bumper and into nuts on top of the bumper. its solid as schites.

Thanks guys.

Swamp Boy - build your tow point into the bumper. That was my main reason for building this thing, I need to get rid of my old swap cooler and it won't fit in the ZJ so I'm going to have to throw it on the trailer (which I needed a tow point to use of course).....Anyway, short story - ditch the hitch and build a bumper with a tow point.

I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND DITCHING THE HITCH. Acts as a load distribution and stiffens the unibody. After seeing KevinF's rear end of his jeep flex I would never not run a hitch.

You should see how I have this bumper tied into the unibody. It's running inside the 'frame rails' and then those two sections of tubing are tied together with 2" angle running along the back seam of the body. It's tied into the body in about 10 places from what I recall....it's doing a lot for structural rigidity back there....

Puma I've never seen a rear fit the lines of a Grand as well as that. There's always like at least 1/2" gap between the top of the side part of the bumper and the body.

Me gusta.

Puma - Did you make the bumper yourself? That is the best looking rear bumper for the ZJ I have ever seen!! If you integrated a hitch into or some other form of recovering I'd buy one from you!
