Well I figured I might as well start a thread about my POS.

My first vehicle was an 89 Isuzu Trooper II; a hand-me-down from my dad. This really got me into 4x4's and offroading although it was completely bone stock. I didn't do any of my own work to it at all, the only thing I did do was go to the local trails about every day. Of course beating and bashing on it took its toll and although it was the most reliable vehicle ever it got about 9 mpg and had a head gasket leak among other problems. Here she is:

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid166/p9b6a7463357c221fa3d516c311fcdcbc/f446697e.jpg

After trading in that $800 SUV for $3000 towards the purchase of the ZJ in 2002 I was pretty siked to get it for a bargain. In all her stock form it was given a 4.0L inline 6, NV242 tcase, D30/D35 with 3.55's, infinity gold sound, among other features that the trooper lacked. Of course we all know what a stock ZJ looks like.

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid166/p10ca03f33175078d3646cbc65ee58c42/f4466ef4.jpg

First order of business was to get this thing off the pavement. After visiting these local trails yet again about every weekend I was surprised at how well it did considering 90% of these vehicles don't see anything other than mall parking lots.

This is when things went downhill. I started frequenting JeepsUnlimited.com and learning ALOT. This was before every thread was about tire sizes, budget boosts, or equally lame topics. I think most on here remember the good ol' days. The first mods are always the lame poser mods but what can I say? I was in high school and it was the shiznit back in the day. This consisted of RE 3.5" lift, DT shocks, homemade roof rack, 4 hella 500 lights, 32" BFG at/ko's, and flowmaster/carsound exhaust.

After a meet and greet with a few JU people we went wheeling in Raleigh at a place that was definatley beyond my wheeling capabilities. Needless to say I was not used to anything other than big hillclimbs and donuts in the mud, yes very lame. I quickly realized most of the bolt-on junk on my ZJ was useless.

After this epiphany I decided to modify my jeep not to look good but to be better offroad. This consisted of chopping up my front bumper, getting some skids from the junkyard, new AR-767's, and upgrading the suspension that consisted of:

JKS lower control arms
Tera upper contol arms (thanks Brandon)
JKS rear trackbar
Kevins/JKS front trackbar conversion
JKS quicker disconnects
1" coil spacers

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid166/p5300b76f4d9aab642ff03dce851a8f00/f44644d7.jpg

This probably made the biggest difference offroad. I was now able to flex 10x better than before and could bash the gas tank, tcase, and front skids without worrying about getting home in one piece.

Being the slave I am to the JU for sale forum I found a good deal on a bumper that my friend had Carolina Rock Shop made for him. The guy that bought my friends jeep decided that he didnt want it to be lifted/modded anymore for some reason so he parted out all the good stuff on it and I was able to snatch the bumper for about 1/2 of what it originally cost to be constructed. Keep in mind I'm a 19 year old college student so finding this for a bargain was key. To anyone interested in anything Carolina Rock Shop has to offer, I highly reccomend them, they do good work and this bumper has been through hell and back, definatley good stuff.

Chopping the front to slide in the mounts...

I soon realized that even on east coast terrain that consists mostly of mud, small rocks, hilly terrains, etc, I needed sliders. After shopping around and looking at Kevins, Rusty's, Claytons, and others, it would be about 10x easier and a little cheaper just to make whatever I wanted. I started out trying to design some sliders like the ORGS because I thought they would give the best lateral protection without sticking out as far as Kevins.

What I was going for:

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid166/p204444abd34023fb832acc8d480eac48/f4462721.jpg

What the original design turned out like:

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid144/pd08fc789d96ee620139f9dea6da7b56f/f67dada8.jpg

And how it actually turned out. The brackets are welded to the unibody and I know that you are thinking bad idea but it was the best method to securing them to the jeep and has held up to whatever I've thrown at it.

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid166/pfc44efc5463da4d0c640a5507716e5f5/f44e0b94.jpg

And I accomplished what I set out to do. Make some sliders with a design that doesnt compromise ground clearance and doesnt stick out so far like Kevins or comparable sliders. Heres a view from the side.

At this point I thought I would be done for awhile and just wheel it as frequently as possible. This didnt last long, the next time I went to Uwharrie my rear end got its rear end kicked. :supz: for a bad joke! Anyway after clocking my front driveshaft, f-ing up my pinion seal, tearing out my rear gears, etc it was time for a new upgrade. On the upside my sliders worked great.

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid146/p8f951d4ffdaf3c5b4be130b751adc5f8/f642b70c.jpg

So basically while juggling a 17 hour semester, 25 hour work weeks, a girlfriend and family to give time to, among other responsibilities I had to get a new rear end in my daily driver. This is where ghetto turns ghettoER. Being the PWT that I am my ZJ sat on jackstands in my apartment parking lot for a good 2.5 weeks just like this.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/axle%20swap/f5406f76.jpg

And of course whats a D35 pic without the obligatory :flipoff2: pic?

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/axle%20swap/f5406f74.jpg

We loaded up the POS D35 and my 8.8 from a 2001 mercury mountaineer into my friends truck and hauled it to a more suitable workplace.

For more details on this process click the link below.

http://www.mallcrawlin.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1294

Anyway we got the old brackets off the D35 which was ALOT cheaper than a $300 TJ bracket kit that only 1/2 works. Here are just a few production pics.

I'm not one for ridin' spinna's so we welded the tubes to keep them from rotating in the diff.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/axle%20swap/f53dd161.jpg

Set pinion to 11* and coil perches at 0*.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/axle%20swap/f53dd15a.jpg

Ever taken a picture of welding in process? looks like a bad acid trip.

So currently I have a MOUND of parts sitting in my basement/shop.

4.56 ring and pinon (8.8)
4.56 ring, pinion, and carrier (HP30)
master install kits for both
Lockright locker for 8.8 (thanks Gabe!)
TJ shafts for HP30
new 760x u-joints

This is all waiting on me to finish the buildup of my $15 HP30. I spend alot of the weekend stripping it to the bare housing, tearing out the seals, and sandblasting it. Matt you're right, sandblasters completely suck ass. Basically thanks to LouisianaZJ I started checking out NAXJA more often and found a guy selling several HP30's. Did I get the one that was in perfect condition with 4.56's and a true-trac? hell no, I have horrible luck. I got the 16 year old axle that has been sitting in his backyard for several years. The good points, I could build it myself knowing it was done right, it had no chance of being bent (wasnt under a trail rig), and hell building is 1/2 the fun. Here is what the $15 HP30 started as.

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid166/p633bf974e2d29a419e0db07af3c22104/f4460382.jpg

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid166/p015f1638cac9751cbf30d0e27d9a52c8/f44603a9.jpg

So I should be done sandblasting and POR-15ing the housing this weekend (not to rip off your idea Dirk!) so I'll update this as soon as I have anything relevant to show. Now time to get back to work, its exams week but I'll be done in less than a week. :supz: But just not to leave you hanging, how she sits today. (minus the LIMI windshield thing, I got tired trying to peel off that gay JU windshield sticker, its gone now though)

well after 2 weeks of being off work, one week of those being in Moab for GSW05 and the other week chillin at the beach, i need to get my lazy ass back in gear and finish some of my junk up. I finally have all my parts for the HP30 and I will be dropping it off sometime next week to get the gears done. Anyone in the NC triad area i highly reccomend Goferit Offroad, Sheldon does very good quality work for cheaper than most the other guys, he's good to deal with.

To all of you hardcore techies, sorry I'm not doing my own gear install, i dont have the time, tools, resources, etc, for all of that. If there was someone nearby that could teach me I'd be all for it but there ain't, so thats that.

BTW please flame me for the cover, it'll accent my yellow skids, fan shroud, etc quite nicely.

ok so i've been incredibly productive in the last 2 days. I ripped out my carpet in the rear (only because my hatch leaks and it was mildewy) and threw down about 3 coats of hammerite paint, looks good. I also drilled a few holes in key locations to drain some of the water and for when I spray it down but making sure to keep it far from exhaust fumes.

2nd I added a set of 2" spacers on top of my springs to give me a little extra clearance. I am getting it down to a science, me and a friend installed the spacers, changed brake pads, greased everything, and cleaned up within 3 hours.

Also this morning I got wal-mart to balance my new set of 33x12.50 BFG M/T's. At $4 per tire I couldn't say no. When I used to swap between my 32" MT's and 32" AT's (for trail and street tires) they eventually started voiding the entire balancing fee and only charge to mount each one.

I've still decided to trim up my fenders a little so I have no chance of rubbing them when fully flexed, however I gave up on my hope of running 35's. Basically it is just not feasible on a DD jeep that sees several highway miles. Also like I said with school starting soon I need to focus more on better grades and less on building up a POS biblewagon. :snakeman:

Last and certainly not least, I got my rear bumper and tire carrier in today. It looks pretty nice after a little cleanup and I probably will throw a few coats of paint on it. I've got to say Kris did a damn good job designing and building this thing. It looks solid and hopefully will stand up to a good bashing. The greasable bushing is also a nice little touch and will hopefully keep things tight and lubricated (just how I like them :supz: ) just having a small problem getting it on, see post in newbie tech.

I've been trying to get pics for the last couple days but keep forgetting, I'll update very soon with pics so keep your eyes open.

there were a few small problems with the rear bumper. first of all the support brackets that hold in that stock piece of tin bumper were completley seized onto the the nut and after torching, pounding, and cursing it still didn't come off. the only way i could think of getting it off was to weld a nut onto the threaded section of the stud and wrench it. Well guess what, it worked.

also the bumper comes up just a little high and my DRIV side taillight is kinda sandwiched in there so I'm thinking any kinda rear end twist and that taillight will crack, but i'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

along the same lines the tailgate is shutting very strangely after the bumper is on like the latch is not really adjusted right. I had to crack it open and repair it once before because the striker had gotten pushed up into the door over the years, so it shouldn't be a big deal.

The only other issue I encountered is that the tire on a stock wheel sits it too far back on the body and it wouldn't bolt down too tight. Not a problem I just flipped it around for now, now I just need another AR-767.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/rear%20bumper/128_2883.jpg

Thanks for the help dad.

doubtful, it slides in pretty far and is held on by the same holes as the trailer hitch. if it can stand up to the duties of towing with a hitch + 100's of pounds of cargo i'm sure it can hold a 60 lb tire without a problem.

depends on rim offset.

Elliot the jeep is looking good, like the diff cover too :supz: . anyway i was deeply hurt and felt like clearing my name seeing as how puma soiled it on page one.

"The guy that bought my friends jeep decided that he didnt want it to be lifted/modded anymore for some reason so he parted out all the good stuff on it and I was able to snatch the bumper for about 1/2 of what it originally cost to be constructed. "

Im the chubby hippie in the pic trying to figure out why the hell the bumper won't line up :weedman: the guy with the pimp necklace is suppose to be my friend brad and as you may guess puma would be the skate poser with the birdhouse shirt
My jeep is still active, I just spend more time wheeling it then I do flirting on the internet :finga: .

anyway ive hated on puma enough now and I feel better. next time you make a uwharrie/tellico trip hit me up if you still got my #, if not just pm me. peace out bitches

I am 95% on a trip october 15th.. however, the intent of that trip would be to run slickrock and some of the harder stuff, which I am probably the only one stupid enough to run in a daily driver.

The good news: My new steering held up fine.

Actually, I may be interested in the input shaft if its not FUBARed. Guess it all depends on what I end up getting a 242 out of. Well, I guess since you have a 4.0, the input shaft could vary from the 5.2 anyways.

It may be as cost effective to build a new one, but it also may be easier to reinforce the old one if it isnt bent too badly. Basically, if you look at the t-case side of the plate there is a groove that runs along the perimeter. I took some 1/4" plate (maybe 3-4" wide) and welded it into this groove all the way around. Then I used some of the plate to cover the drain plug access hole and also added a few cross braces to brace the plate that was around the perimeter. I basically had the entire jeep parked on this at one point and it didn't even flinch. Cheap, easy and effective. Ofcourse, not as cool as making a new one all together. :smt025

The 242 is still holding up. it was not as badly damaged as i originally thought after last time out. Its mostly the seal that was leaking. A combination of unibody twisting and insane temperature fluctuations is taking a toll on the tranny/tcase seals and every so often i'll come out to a red puddle under the jeep.

These problems will be solved this winter, i've been doing alot of reading up on D300's. :supz:

This has been done for awhile but just now getting around to uploading pics. This skid plate uses a 3/8" plate (almost twice as thick as 1/4" :D ) and bolts to the stock tranny crossmember and a rear crossmember. The rear crossmember is just box metal with angle iron that attaches to the frame rails via 12 sheet metal screws. The way its angled outward onto the frame the crossmember should spread the force out over the entire area of the framerails. Also the plate has angled up ends so it won't get caught on anything. My favorite feature is that it uses countersunk hex bolts to attach to the front and rear crossmembers because last time I went out i ripped off my stock t-case skid because the long ass bolts that were hanging off of it. Anyway, here are some pics!

Your Jeep did really well Elliott. The body damage comes with the territory, especially with stock trackwidth. Too bad it took us 7 hours to get up it once with all the sleet, gas siphoning, and hypothermic old morons on 4 wheelers..

Bailey, it's pretty typical to see all the jeeps make it up an obstacle under their own power when the toyotas can't :flipoff2:

there is some pretty good stuff out there. There aren't really trails like you would compare to tellico or uwharrie. Basically this place is like taking slickrock, upper/lower 2, and schoolbus and cramming them all within a square 1/2 mile of each other. Either way there is some good stuff to wheel but this place is definatley made for buggies and larger rigs. Here are some more pics.

Well the noise coming from the "locker" was probably because the rear wheel was not fucking bolted to the axle shaft. Never buy wheel spacers. As I was coming around high point rd. in gboro on friday I heard a HUGE bang, ass end of the jeep hopped up about 3 ft, and landed on my rotor. Shortly after I watch my 35" tire rolling down the road. This is a case of product failure and it really pisses me off. Most of the damage was done to the passenger rear of the vehicle, I will have more pics from the decent camera ASAP. Here are pics of the studs on the wheel spacer, check out how there are NO THREADS on the bottom 1/2 of the stud. Fucking shitty.

Picked up a DD. 1992 BuicK Century, 70K miles, incredibly clean inside and out, 3.3 V6. Since I drive a 50 mile round trip to work every other day it should be alot more practical than the jeep. Even though it is a grandma car I got it for $1000. Not bad really.

But this is GREAT news because now i won't have to drive the HEEP everyday! I can park it for a while and work out all the problems with it and mod the hell out of it.

But I also am getting rid of my lockright for a full detroit. I have wanted to do this for awhile so what better time than now. Hopefully I will have it completed enough to make a run up to Uwharrie in late april.

I got the herculiner done on the cladding. Here is the before pic, you can see how scratched up it was from random trees and rocks and stuff.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/uwharrie/Project11.jpg

The actual stuff is called Durabak-18. It was a real pain in the ass to work with and it set up alot faster than I thought it would so I really didn't get to give it even coats. I may end up going over it again.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/uwharrie/Project6.jpg

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/uwharrie/Project12.jpg

I also got my compressor mounted. It works really well for its size, pumps my 35" up from 15 psi to 30 psi in 3-4 minutes. Not bad.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/uwharrie/Project7Medium.jpg

For my 21st my girlfriend got me some new speakers. 6.5" Infinity Kappas, they sound awesome. With the quality sound of these I'm thinking about putting a small sub in here just for some extra oomph.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/uwharrie/infinity.jpg

Tomorrow I am putting the same herculiner (except black) down in the rear hatch area inside. Where the seats fold down will also be covered by a large aluminum sheet, riveted to the backs of the seat, and covered in black durabak. Should look good and take more abuse than regular paint.

ELLLLLIOTTTTT
06-25-2006, 09:37 PM
All done with modifying the rear fenders. I bent the lip up so my tires won't be ripping it down anymore. They pretty much self clearanced all the sheet metal so I only had to trim the stuff near the door. Now they tuck up in there nice and tight without actually rubbing anything.

So for this I cut the pinch seam and where the 2 layers of sheet metal meet, I just riveted it all back together. I stole the idea from Chadwick Jansman :smt046 and it seems to work nicely.

Just curious...aren't the I6 exhaust manifolds supposed to have flexible bellows in them??? If those are not there, that might explain why the thing cracked. If the bellows were not on your manifold, and were added at some later production point, it might make sense to seek out the later style manifold.

Cue-Ball

Even w/ the flexible portions the stock manifold is prone to cracking.
Best bet is to replace stock manifold with an aftermarket header.

Later style being 99 and up? I really have no idea. It took 8 years for the old one to crack so in another 8 years when I replace this one I'll look into the newer styles.

I always thought pathfinders looked like boats and seeing it in water just amplifies that thought. Your jeep is coming along well dude. I have that same compressor and one of those gay assed 10 gallon airtanks from advanced, but I think it's too retarded of a shape to use for onboard air. I didn't know you had an open air filter too. I'm swapping mine out for a hidden snorkel kit soon..my heap's been in some deep water lately. You're right about the exhaust manifold too. Mine was cracked when I bought the jeep. I replaced it with a chinese/ebay one with flex joints and it is developing the crack again.

you will like the sound deadening material. I have as of now 1 layer on the roof, 3 on back hatch, and 3 on each door. When it cools down some more outside I'm gonna do the entire floor and add 2 more layers to the roof.
even with just one layer I have on the roof I noticed that it is a little cooler inside after it has been sitting outside in the sun for a while. black paint is hawt baking in the sun...
and the road noise was noticably quieter

ELLLLLIOTTTTT
08-14-2006, 02:32 PM
not really a big mod but definatley quieted down the road noise. So for this little project all the rear carpet got ripped up because it was moldy and dirty. So I got this stuff called all purpose window flashing. Its the same thing as dynamat, just a bit thinner. And at $20 for a 70' roll you can't go wrong. I got the idea from a buddy of mine that did the interior of his tow rig.

http://www.nc4x4.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2175&stc=1&d=1136433656

So I threw down 2 layers of that in the rear hatch area and behind the front seats. Plasma cut some pieces of aluminum to contour to the rear and to go on the back of the rear seats. Riveted all of that down, added some tie down loops, and herculined the whole thing. Turned out well, but I don't have any pics post herculiner. But you get the idea.

Cue-Ball

The bottom folds up vertical, then on the bottom cushion there are holders for the headrest and the back folds down flat.

i don't think it would stick. you really need a hard surface that has been scuffed up to get it to adhere well enough.

CurtP
08-15-2006, 04:10 PM
That's nothing like Dynamat. Dynamat is asphault impregnated for density and that is just a rubber membrane. Not that I would ever buy Dynamat - that shit is too fucking expensive and their adhesive sucks balls. A couple of layers of the rubber membrane will work fairly well to stifle noise and will probably stand up better to the elements. That membrane will be more resilient to impact damage, is considerably lighter and it's balls cheap.

For sound deadener, I've been using B-Quiet Ultimate. Cheaper than Dynamat, works better than a rubber membrane and once it's down, it isn't coming back up without a major fight.

I think you're better off using the membrane the way you did.

While I await a couple BIG HEAVY boxes to arrive, here are a few things I've gotten accomplished over the past couple months. I got these leather seats from a guy on NAGCA for a steal. I have not hooked up the seat heaters yet but that will get done on my thanksgiving break from school. They are from a 98 limited.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/My%20junkers/jeep006.jpg

Also my old Advance battery finally bit the dust. It put in a good 3 years, which for $60 I really can't complain. I tried going to Sam's to get an Optima for less than $100 but they have recently discontinued them. I do have a question though WTF happened to Optima prices?! Last time I was looking at them they were about $50 less. Oh well.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/My%20junkers/jeep008.jpg

Also another guy on NAGCA was practically giving away one of Kevin's radiator supports so I picked it up from him. Still in pretty good condition. After seeing Dave's I know the stock ones can take some serious abuse but I thought I might as well upgrade. This also will be put on over fall break. Here is the old vs new.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/My%20junkers/jeep003.jpg

Finally I got a few pictures of the rear floor done, herculined, soundproofed, etc. With all the tie downs riveted into the floor. Its really convenient to throw muddy tow straps, dirty boots, dead hookers, and the like back there, and just come by with a rag and wipe up all the dirt.

it's a little modified to fit with my bumper. Basically the same though. As for the backs of the seats and rear cargo, everything is mentioned at the top of this page. Sound deadener, aluminum sheet metal riveted to the floor, herculiner, tie down loops, etc.

CurtP

Be careful with those little loop tie downs - the flat metal strap ripped when a load shifted on my '96 causing everything to come flying forward. I don't trust those damn things.

How are you hooking up the heated seats? If you're going to try to use a factory switch, it can be a PITA. I ended up replacing both the dash and interior harnesses on my '96. I also ended up changing the manual HVAC controls to ATC while I was at it - only because it was easier to get the plenum and ATC computer than it was finding a dash harness that had provisions for heated seats and manual HVAC controls. Running separate wires/switches would have been easier, but I have issues...

Thanks for the advice Curt. I'll keep my eyes on the tie downs. As for the heated seats, I have checked the FSM for all the needed parts including relays and wiring and I appear to have everything for the most part. We'll see how that goes when I actually go to hook it up.

Chad, I'm gonna take a gander at your pics to see exactly what you did with your rad support. I'm not TOO worried about it because I'm using my bumper as a tow point, not the rad support.

As for the boxes, they should be here next weekend or so.

After 2 days of grinding, welding, wrenching, pounding, jacking, cleaning, breathing in 10 pounds of paint and metal particles it is finally done. Well I guess its 95% done. I had to hack the exhaust up to have clearance for the rear uppers. I wil be replacing the Flowmaster 40 with a smaller Magnaflow unit. Also I had to chop off the sliders mount on the rear. These being welded all the way onto the unibody made this a pain in the ass to say the least. I'll attach those again at some point.

All I can say is wow. It rides better than it did when stock. I took a buttload of pics during the install and we flexed it out on the forklift. I am going to post the pics later tonight as the cord to my digi cam is in Chapel Hill.

Also.. big thanks to Richard (sharksanddanger), Brad (UncDude2004), Zach (muddin150), and Dave (BigDaveZJ), without whom I would still be taking off the first bolt. :poke: Thanks guys!

Well we got started on this on friday at around 5:00 pm. I had class earlier that day and Richard was shopping for a SuperDuty.... lucky bastid. Anyway here is the kit in its entirety. Clayton's 4 link hard arms.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_1965.jpg

Getting everything off the ground to work on.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_1970.jpg

Grinding the mass amount of undercoating off of the unibody framerails is a real beeyatch. They pack that on thick at the factory.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_1971.jpg

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_1976.jpg

Had to cut the rear mounts of the sliders off, this took more time than anything else. Definatley should have bolted these on 3 years ago but hey they're off now.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_1992.jpg

Got the tranny crossmember, front LCA brackets and subframe welded on. The subframe is stitch welded as-per the directions. So I guess it will be fine.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_1993.jpg

After that was done we moved onto the rear. The rear was much more work. No matter how flush you plasma the mounts off there is still going to be ALOT of grinding. The rear trackbar, and upper control arm mounts have to be chopped off to make room for the new truss.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_2014.jpg

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_2009.jpg

After setting the lowers at 32.5" I adjusted the uppers in correspondence to the pinion angle at 11*. Now time for the new truss. What do you think of those welds?

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_2012.jpg

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_2018.jpg

Now time for the finished product.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_2021.jpg

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_2023.jpg

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_2025.jpg

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_2026.jpg

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_2028.jpg

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_2033.jpg

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a349/Puma297/longarms/IMG_2034.jpg

The only 2 incidents we ran into was the rear mount on the sliders interfering with the control arm mounts. Grinding those off took forever. Also while grinding down the trackbar mount that was plasma'd off, I knicked the stainless brake line so I had to get a new piece, bend it, flare it, install it, and bleed the brakes. Annoying but not a big deal.

Overall I am very pleased with the kit. Now with some longer shocks I will be riding nicely on the trail. Onto the next mod, right? :D

Lookin awesome man!! Glad to hear the install went pretty smoothly for ya. One thing I just thought of that I forgot to mention when I talked to ya earlier today was making sure you were able to get the fuel lines back in around the pass side upper mount, but I guess you figured that one out on your own!

Flex looks amazing, I definitely need some longer shocks on mine too, still running the same ones I had with my budget boost!

Yep it rides amazing, I was very surprised. They are 35's and running about 5.5" so there is alot of cutting. I still need to do some in the rear.

Dave, I still need to do something about those lines. They are sitting right above the rear upper joint. I guess its not a big deal but I should probably have them secured a little better. By the way, do you have any problems with the rear uppers contacting the floor? I think I may need another inch of lift, but I really dont want to.

Thanks for the kind comments guys.

I thought you were building a kit?

I was going to. But 2 issues arose. I don't have the time to design and build an entire kit from scratch. I can't imagine how long that would have taken! For a guy thats never installed a 4-link, buying premanufactured pieces made it ALOT easier. The other issue is that I got a pretty good steal on the kit, a deal I couldn't pass up. :D

Someday down the road when I have a little more experience in knowledge I feel confident that I'll make a new kit (probably not for this rig though).

BigDaveZJ
12-03-2006, 02:04 PM
My rear uppers have done a good job of "clearancing" the floorboard to make room for them. Made a couple bangs the first couple big bumps, but not an issue anymore.

For those lines, I used a plasma to cut off the very top of the tab and slide them back in.
