Well as we all know its hard to mount an antenna of any kind on our ZJ's without it getting ripped off but I found something that works a little better. Instead of drilling a mount right above the tail light where it sticks out in harms way I found this mount made by COMET. It goes on the actual hatch door so it doesnt stick as far out as others. Just thought I'd share.

I did mine here:

Yea thats the pic from above but whatever (my digital is out right now)... At this spot, the mount ripped the metal up. So I moved mine to uptop on the roof rack.

I bought a Wilson "Lil Will" magnetic antenna. Gets a fucking great reception and isn't prone to breakage. What sucks about fiberglass antennas is that the steel antenna inside can break and you'll never know. Happened to the last Firestik I was using. I really like my new antenna :D

Mine is on the back on my roof rack.. But its a stainless steele whip..

So it bends real well without hurting it... :smt003

I drove thru all kinds of crap last weekend and my lights took an ass whipping but the antennea stayed put ...

A friend of mine runs dual antennas on his hood... he can ALWAYS get out and receive better than anybody in the club.

dual CB/shortwave antennas DO NOT recieve or transmit better than a single. It has something to do with cophase/oscillation/etc. I got my amateur radio tech license when I was like 15 but I forgot all the stuff that was on the test since then.

31. Co-phased (dual) antenna installations create a radiation pattern that favors communication directly in front and back of the vehicle. This is why co-phase systems are popular with people who do a lot of highway driving. Co-phase antennas must be center or top loaded. Top loaded antennas are the best.

32. Some people believe that co-phased antennas must be separated by a minimum of nine (9) feet. We have successfully used co-phase antenna systems with spacing as little as four (4) feet. Space alters the pattern and not always negatively. Each vehicle will be different.

33. Co-phase antennas can improve performance on vehicles that lack good ground plane characteristics (fiberglass motorhomes, trucks, etc.). Instead of using available metal to reflect the radiated energy, the antennas use each others field.

2m (1) + CB (1) = 2

I grabbed a cheap mag mount at wally world and stuck it on the roof in front of the rack. Was only supposed to be temporary, but it works.

Agreed. No issues with grounding, either.

Same here. Its mounted 3 1/2" from the side. Makes a good locationg for keeping it out of the way of rocks and trees. This can also be done with the stock bumper in place.
