I have killed my tranny.. And am looking to swap.. Dont know if you saw this in the other post so I made a new one...

I want something stronger and was wondering if anyone has put a 727 in thier rig.. Or something else.. Any sugestions...

I am also seriously thinking about an NV 4500 or another manual...
Has anyone done that??? (I am thinking no...) But why not??
Will it work if i get the bell housing and everything from a dodge truck or Dakota?? and Pedal assembly from an XJ ..

Somebody give me some Ideas.. I am going nuts...

Thanks..

Carl

an AX-15 would be easier than a NV4500

killerbj (killerZJ) swapped in AX-15

spent about 10 grand on it and 6 months :finga:

honestly i would not even bother with an AX15, if your going to do it do it big
what is the gear ratio like in the 727? is that what they put in the full size cherokee's?

yea he spent alot time and unneccessary $$$ on that swap. end results were pretty good though. Going big is good and all but with a properly geared drivetrain and no bigger than 35" tires/ 200hp motor your transmission won't be your weak point.

YUp... I am ported and polished and I have magnum rockers (Brand not the truck..) and I have bored throttle body and port matched exhaust and I cut the rails in my intake and 28# injectors and .................................................. .. you get the point....

Anyway..I need a tranny that will take some power .. I am also thinking about the 47Rh from 4WD diesel.. Anyone know if that will work??

The more I look the more options I find....None of which look impossible but I also havent been able to find anyone who did any of them...

It wont be the first time I am the first to try something... :smt003

I just talked to a buddy of mine who put a 5.2 in a TJ>. He has a 465 with a dana 300 And its working fine.. I am waiting on reply about his clutch set up..

He has flipped his and has A 44 front.. I will not be swapping axles anytime soon so I will either be looking for options on T case as well..

On the bright side..I have a 231 J housing with 231 D internals that I might be selling if anyone is interested.. :smt003

I bet that 47RH would have an awesome granny gear...

Are you considering only autos, or are you open to manual also?

I believe, if you're looking for something that will bolt up with no adapters, you are probably looking at these options: (I'm sure there are more out there.... I've got a buddy that's a chrysler tech, I'll mention this to him next time we're hanging out.)

AW 4
NV4500
NV3500
NV3550
46RE or RH
727 (does that bolt up?)

Don't know of anyone that's tried something like this. Good luck with it though...
Have you considered rebuilding what you've got? There are some good tranny shops out there, and if you're willing to dump a bunch into a new trans, you might be able to build a pretty stout 46RH for about the same or a bit less.

I met a guy this weekend (when I was busy killing my tranny..) who had a 5.2 from a Grand with a 465 and Dana 300 setup..

I am open to manual.. In fact right now I am open to almost anything..

I will be on the lookout for a 47RH but I am also on the lookout for just about anything else that will work..

I have a lince currently on a 465 and 205 combo from a local guy for $600

How much you think I can get for a 231J housing with 231D gears and chain and the V8 imput shaft in it already... :smt003

Bet I can get a few hundered on JU..

Dodge Trannys have Driver side starters.... which means the exhaust and headers will need to be modified.

Beyond that you could run into all kinds of good shit.

OK.. I guess I have to get my tranny out and check it ... I am going to get the 265 and 205 and since I will need a passenger side axle. I am picking up a Chevy 10bolt front at the same time... I was mistaken and the guy with the TJ has a 435... I still dont know if the 265 will work...

Anyone ???? Hank Can you contact your buddy and find out..

I am pretty sure that at one time Dodge used 465's so maybe???

It does at least have a passenger side starter so ... I am going to pick them up and give it a shot.. Probobly pick up a 14bolt as well ....Since I have all this work to do .. May as well add some more...

:smt003

Sooooo.... As soon as I am positive that the 465 will fit I am selling my HP30 my 8.8 and my 231 to try to offset the cost a little...

I suck at the intraweb.. I cant even find an advace adapter for the 5.2 to Sm465... Does that mean one is not needed??? Surely someone put a 465 in a something...

Any help will be apreciated...

I'll be getting up with him for a while this saturday. He's helping me out with my front axle swap. If you can post up some more specs on the 465 (I'm sure he'll ask me stuff I wouldn't even think of) I'll talk to him and let you know Saturday evening or Sunday.
