I just bought a 231... The input shaft from my 242 is 7/8", and the one in the 231 right now is 2" long (part extending from the face of the case). Aside from being entirely redneck, how terrible would it be to shorten the input shaft myself? I am about 99% sure it's a bad idea, but just wanted to make sure before I ruled it out and wasted a lot of time..

how were you planning on doing it? i think it could be done somewhat non-ghettoly.

I wish I had a bandsaw...

Um, I could use an angle grinder? It's seeming like a less and less good idea, unless I go to a lot of trouble, and even then taking apart the case and swapping input shafts might be easier anyways. Anybody need a "long" 23 spline input shaft?

you could do it with a grinder if you were careful... lathe would probably be best

Shit, if you can cut down custom axle shafts I don't see why you couldn't do it with the input shaft. But personally, I'd have it taken to a machine shop and done professionally so you don't risk fucking up all the splines.
