does anyone have any trouble w/loosing rear shaft. I'm running RE4.5 w/.75 BB.I'm currently running 32's but will be running 33's after swap is complete.

If the rear shaft is the proper length it shouldn't be an issue.

Does proper lenght mean factory lenght,or have one made for the new lenght :smt017

if you dont put an SYE on it the 231, it will be longer than the 249, so yes you probably will have to get your drive shaft shortened.
have you read the write up in the "FAQS and WRITE UPS" forum?
its pretty detailed with info you need.

I just pushed my axle back about 2" or so and I am still running stock shaft.. I have 231 ~6 " 35's and 8.8..

maybe I'm confused, but the 231 case is a 1/2 in shorter then the 249.So I was thinking that between moving the axle back and the lift and the 1/2 in diffrence the stock shaft would be to short, correct :smt017

231 is longer when you factor in the output shaft. I had to shorten my stock d-shaft about 1.5" after the swap.

When you say output shaft, you are talking about the tail housing. If you look at the pic the 231 is not longer then the 249.Still confused.Sorry

You sure? Hard to tell from that pic, but have you measured? Not just eyeballed?

weird. Both my 249 and 231 had a long output shaft that the d-shaft slides over and acts like a slip yoke. You can see it in the second pic on this link:

Also visible on the first pic on this link though I ditched the boot:

Yours almost looks like a 242 from the pic, but it's hard to tell....
