Those "kits" are usually far from complete though; they seem to give you the minimal to "pull off" an install (half the bearings, some shims, etc...)

only thing it did not have were carrier bearings, i got those seperately for $20
the kit was like $180

it had pinion bearings, pinon seals, oil slinger, bolts, etc. i dont know exactly how many shims are in there, but it was a bag full of them

how many shims are needed?

As many as it takes! :finga:

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the spicer gear kits, but they don't come with new bolts either and other things that really should be replaced (the bolts are rippled at the head so they don't back off easily, the ripples are destroyed when you unbolt the old ring gear). I just wish when they go to the effort of providing you with those parts, they'd just charge you an extra $20 to give you ALL the parts.

I put spicer in my rear end, but since I was annoyed with getting the other bearings and bolts for it; I ended up getting Yukon for the front with a full install kit.

It all meets the same specs, yo..... $8 a bottle gear oil don't work any better than the cheap stuff. It just has a fancy label so that stupid people will pay more for it. Most of it comes from THE SAME SUPPLIER and is just branded differently. (I'm not talking about synthetic or specialty blends)

Some of the cheaper stuff doesn't hold up to the high temperatures of gear break in as well; I'm not going to pretend I know all about oil but I'm not going to risk my gear install on a $6 difference either.

I've been debating on running synth after break in though, costs a fortune...

Royal Purple here. (I'm a lazy bastard too)

Did you know that the carquest brand gear oil is made by either valvoline or pennzoil? (can't remember which) But it breaks down faster at hightemps because it says "carquest" on the label and only costs $3. :yawinkle:
