Right now I'm planning on getting an 8.8" from a local junk yard and put 4.56 gears and Eaton E-Locker in it.
My problem is that I'm not sure what to do with the front...keep LPD30, get HPD30 out of an XJ, waggy D44... Not sure on what locker for the front either.
I want to keep stock bolt pattern and I'm not planning on going any bigger anytime soon(32"-33"). This is my daily driver so I want to keep good drivability.
What do you guys think is a good setup for a locked front of a DD with 33's? What have your experiences been with that setup?
TIA

hp30 locked with arb if its a 249 case(or trutrac) or lock right if its a 231 or 242. Doesn't have to be a hp though but it is nice to get caster right and stronger. Tack the caps in the shafts and go have fun. If you break a shaft replace it with a warn and keep wheeling.

I am doing an HP30/8.8 swap in the not to distant future. I am not sure what locker for the front I am going to use, probably just a PowerTrax or something like that.

i have a trutrac up front that works great, i am very happy with it. i would recomend that if you have the 249

HP30 in the front with a no-slip and I snap shafts like pixie sticks. I love the locker though, mega traction.

I would never do it with a 249, I put in a 231 for the 2wd option. If I put it on 4wd on pavement, the driveling binds up and the jeep won't even move.

i have the 249 in there still(still is in great condition after 125k, supprisingly)...so basically i could go limited slip, open, or ARB($$) with the 249...
if i swap in a 242/231 i can go with some type of "auto" locker...
there needs to be more companies with decent selectable lockers for D30's...
too bad ARBs are so freakin $$$$$$$ :axe:

I see D30 ARBs on Pirate and stuff selling for $300-$400 if that helps.

Hell, I got my front hp30 with OTK steering, skid, arb, pump, and spare joints complete rotor to rotor for $600... and it had 4.56 gears! Just have to wait around a look for deals if you have the time.

35" MTR's (read: 34" AT's LOL)

I had the no slip in my 231 though and was STILL breaking shafts with the 31" SSR's.
