the 999 is a smaller lighter duty version of the TF727. Any reason you're not considering the 727? drag guys like the 999 'cause it's lighter, but the 727 definitely is more beef.

I don't know much about the 999, but I found quite a bit dedicated to it on hot rod sites when looking for parts for the 727. I'd start there...

the 727 requires a adaptor, i dont' have money to spend on that although. more beef is what i'm looking for.

look into the 727, it's worthwhile. The 46RH and a few other torqueflites are basically updated electronic versions of it. With a cooler, deep pan and a transgo shift kit, a 727 is tough as nails. They're supposed to be cake to rebuild too, no special tools required or anything like that. Last one I bought had 60k miles on it out of a Grand Wagoneer and cost me $100 delivered to my house...LOL

the 999 is suposed to have the same internals as the 727 but the 999 has a aluminum case. I really want to stay away from adaptors there expensive and i dont' have alot of money to throw around btu i will do a bit more research into them and see what i can pull up. thnx. for the info.

not sure how much tech i can provide, but i can provide some experience. i run a 999 in my cj behind a built 360 (325-350 horses) to a dana 300 w/ 4:1 turning 10/14 bolt axles locked w/ 4.10's and turning 36" SX's. I have had no issues out of my tranny at all. the bonus to these trannies is they can be had for real cheap. as a matter of fact i saw one for FREE the other day. i have a spare but have never needed it yet. the one complaint i have unrelated to the trnny itself is that i run a b&m mega shifter which sucks pretty bad. i think there are some mods you can do to it to help out which i plan to investigate at some point. most everyone recommends the pricey art carr units. another route i have seen is people using factory tj shifters. other than that, not much other info i can provide. i think it would be an awesome swap and i don't see any need for more beef or anything else. makes a lot of sense to me.......

do you plan to run a flipped d300 behind it or a dana300 and chevy front axle or what?

i wana flip and twein stick the d300. then depending on my time line and money situation i MIGHt do a range box infront of that. but that is a huge if. Right now i'm all about finishing up the structural part of the buggy and then plumming the whole thing for OBA on all four corners.

The AMC Eagle 4wd cars came with the 999 bolted to the back of a Jeep 4.2 six and a 119 T-case (single speed version of 219) on the back...
eagles can be had now and then for almost nothing...
