What kind of steel did you guys use to box your frame? AprilzWarrior was telling me like 3x3 (I think)x1/4" box and cut the top off. Any other recommendations?

I have always heard 4x6 retangle tube cut in half. 3/16" I believe.

Used 4x4 1/4" wall and sliced the seam side off.

I also used 4x4x.25 and cut the seam side off. I wasn't happy with the fit over the unibody rails though so i both bolted and welded them on, and the bolts sucked the sides of the 4x4 in probably 1/8" or so on each side.

If you had some 4x6, you could probably just cut it in half and use them as 4x3" pieces...just figure out whichever's cheaper.

I called the local steel place for some 4x6x.25... 10 foot stick was $110. Ouch.

Nate,

Don't you have another guy up there doing a LA setup?

Best bet would be for you two to go half on the 4x6. You're only going to need ~40" or so.

Otherwise, it may be a little cheaper to use 4x4 - at least you'll use more of it.

My shop is starting to look like a steel scrap yard, mostly because I used to just buy whole lengths of whatever size I needed. I've had to break myself of that habit, it creates a lot of waste in terms of $, steel, and space IMO.

HEY NATE, all you need of 4x6 for one truck is 40" or so. try and find a fab shop that will sell you crops.

don't ya'll have steel scrap yards? every bit of steel i used on my longarm setup came straight from the scrap yard at .20$/lb., and it's a fun adventure climbing huge piles of steel looking for what you want anyway. :D

Yeah remants piles. I have to go and check it out, we do have some places. Otherwise, it's 10foot lengths being the shortest and 20 foot is the normal length.

Hank, as far as I know Ty will be doing the subframe. I had called for a price when he was just going to do the parts kit.
