Got a tranny problem. This morning it was pretty cold (-15F) and my tranny (42RE in a '98 4.0ZJ) never shifted in to OD on the drive into work, an approximately 35 mile drive. The last week or so I've noticed that I would have to drive 2 or 3 miles before it would go into 4th. I knew that OD wasn't available until the trans was warm so this didn't really concern me. As of a week ago, the fluid level was fine and I haven't seen any check engine lights pop up.

Can anyone tell me what the hell's going on with my transmission?

Tranny is programmed not to shift into OD the first time it is started when temp is -5 or below from factory. Let it warm up, shut it off, then turn it back on. That should trick it.
