When im on the freeway cruising at 80 or 90, and i let off the gas or step on the brakes, my jeep makes a grinding noise that feels like its coming from right under me, it even slows the jeep down considerably.

Is this the transfer case or could it be something wrong with a diff?

Thanks

sounds like a transmission problem.

what is your year, engine, t-case etc?

How modified is your rig?

My ZJ did that on the way to CO with a TERRIBLY high pinion angle. I thought my tcase was shot, it was just the pinion angle.

Its stock, 97 5.2L limited...could it be a driveshaft out of balance? Bent axle shaft? TC going out?

I had this problem, it is probably the slipyolk for the rear driveshaft. Check your ujoints, pinion angle and have the rear shaft balanced. I also put some antisize on the splines for a tighter fit.

maybe wheel bearing or pinion bearing.
