Thought I'd share some pics of what's been tying me up for the last couple of weeks.

67 Scout I've been building for my dad. Everthing is home brew on this sucker, It's taking a lot of time. Last week I had a couple of buddies helping out so it was pretty productive.

Anyway, it's a 67 scout, stock 198 engine, T-18, twin-stick D20. I've redone the suspension so it's using YJ springs SOA and 0.75" lift shackles. Axles are D44 front and D60 semi-float rear. 5.89 gears, welded rear, lockright up front. We've made front and rear bumpers, the cage, cut out the rockers and replaced them with 4x4x0.24" square tubing, etc. It's been a big project.

This is what it looked like when it came my way:

http://www.nmt.edu/~rselina/scout.JPG

Anyway, it's off at my mechanic's right now for a full exhaust and brake lines (I hate doing brakes) then it'll come back later this week and I should have brackets for the rear shocks and the Rancho 5012s for the front. I'm going to stick some 35" baja claws on it and we'll take her for some tests probably next week if all goes well.

Looking forward to finishing this up and getting back to the 8.8 and ZJ suspension!

not enough triangulation. lol.

LOL, don't you start

Actually, I am a little bummed I couldn't do bars between the front hoop and the middle hoop outside the passenger area, but it's rather hard to climb into the fitted seats and my dad wouldn't be able to with the bar there...

ZJ and the SJ (see avatar) for me and the wife. Scout is for my dad. Also have a 75 MG I play with.

Here's what I still need to do:
- Replace front glass
- Replace driveshafts (tom woods units on order)
- Mount 36" IROK bias plys (on order)
- mount tachometer and rebuild carb again.
- trim some more on the fenders

Think that's it!

awesome.... what size tires are on it now?

33x12.50R15, but they're a little undersized and the iroks are oversized (36.8" on a 10" rim).

yea, but it's easy 'cause the fenders are single wall front and rear (think front of the ZJ) and the actual fender well is HUGE in both cases. Only place that'll possibly give me a little grief is some boxing that's at the front of the front fenders, behind the turn signals. I've moved the front axle forward and already trimmed there a little, but some more is going to have to go...no biggie though...

How are the Iroks holding up? Do they see much road use? If so, what kind of wear are you getting?

I know they won't be anything near the wear from a normal tire...

you might want to brace that stinger.

Looking good Rob. I dig the IROKs. Out of curiosity, are there any particular reasons for the way you designed the cage? Maybe an effort to be able to use the hard top? Head room? Storage?

Just seems, I don't know, a little boxy. Maybe its just the ZJ guy coming out in me. lol

Again, regardless, its a sweet rig. Pretty cool thing to do for your dad. I'm still trying to convince my dad to ride with me on an actual trail.

sorry, totally missed when this got bumped.

The cage - I started it when I didn't have a garage so I wanted it simple. Also needed boatloads of storage.

Nowadays it's sitting outside the shop waiting for some help since the full-hydro pump is leaking from the can....gotta reseal it and brace it...

Anyway, here are some wheeling pics from when she was up on the trail:

Also i dig the cage too. All you would need for what you guys are doing. Kinda gives it a retro look.

How do you liek the poly buckets?

robselina
11-11-2005, 04:40 PM
the poly buckets are working out pretty well. I was a little worried they might be hard for him to get in and out easily since they're pretty supportive, but he seemed to do okay.

Sort of a weird turn of events on this one is that my dad ended up moving to Florida right as this thing was done and he decided to leave it here in NM with me since the house they bought is in one of those bitchy neighborhoods where they won't let him keep it outside and he doesn't have garage space since he'd rather have a boat. LOL. I think he's comming out sometime in the new year and we'll take it out again....just gotta work out the steering by then...

*drool* I always did have a soft spot for a nice scout. There was travelall down the road from me 100% solid for 2k. on 33's, i swear its got like 2 feet on a 'burban widthwise lol. so easy to fit liek 4 ppl across lol. back seat down u got more then a fullsize bed. then my neighbor had one in his yard... deisel nonetheless... dammit.

MAJOR props on bringin life back into that old girl. I bet when she was little she dreamed of lookin like that.:cheer2:

thanks man.

She's looking kinda lonely sitting outside my house.

http://infohost.nmt.edu/~rselina/scout/scoutsteer1.JPG

I've been so busy with the two jeeps, I haven't been able to sort out her steering problem. I've made a couple of attempts but it looks like I need to replace my pump at this point..

I'm not a fan of the square-ish cage, but if that's what you need then who am I to tell you what you should have?

Good to see you still have it. I'm working on an orange (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y257/Fryloc/scout80009.jpg) one. Still have a few details like front driveshaft and rear brakes to take care of.
