well to start with a 14b is huge and heavy. so what size tires do you plan to run ? i have a 14b in mine and if i had it to do over again i would have fixed the 9" i have and run 35s instead of 38s. i would not fawk with the 14b unless i was going fullwidth and 38"+ in tires.

hope you're planning on carrying two spares if you're keeping the D30 front

the 14b is only 45 in from backplate to backplate so it will fit nicely but i dont want to run 38s just yet, need to beef al the drivetrain first

axles are measured from the wheel mounting surface not the backing plate. that will tell you nothing.

yeah hubs tend to add some width. maybe if you measured to the end of the spindles.

if that 14b is from a dually, it's 63" wide. it's a great width that is sort of a compromise between a stock and a fullwidth. I'd only run that axle though if you're gonna use some huge meats or shave the shit out of the bottom. I shaved mine and plated it and i now have a 1-ton rear-end with the ground clearance of a stock D44, so i'm fine running 35's or 37's on it, and should never have to worry about breakage.
If you're gonna use it, i'd put discs on it too...those drums are some huge heavy bastards. On the plus side though, if you leave the drums on and keep that thing heavy as shit, it'll make you less likely to roll..lol.
For the front i used a bronco HP44, narrowed down to waggy width to use stock waggy inners, and then put F250 8-lug outers on it and it is now 63" and matches the rear almost perfectly.

my neighbor used to run those axles pretty much.
44 front with hydro, 14b rear with drums, welded locked, unshaved. he ran 8 lug hummer beadlocks and like 36" swampas. full size wagoneer.
dont think he ever broke anything on the rear. but the clearance out back was pretty low for 36" tires

swampy probably has some pics (donzi's rig)
