Guys were can I get a decent bean type in/lb torque wrench for a decent price? Need something that measures 0-100... last time I needed it, I used the base Hobby Shop one, but I really would like one in my toolbox... one I can count on being accurate, for setting tranny bands, pinion preload, etc.

Not finding anything in Craftsman or Snap-On.
I found a Blackhawk one here http://www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/NNSRHM, but it reads to 800 in/lbs... so I don't think it will be too accurate in the low numbers. I found a few that read lower, but they are in the $300-600 range.

Yeah that one won't work for setting pinion preload. Would be ok for tranny bands though.
The one I was looking at is a dial type, 0-75 in/lbs in 1in/lb increments... $160 though. I may just buy this Craftsman and get a beam that's good for 0-60 for $60. Would be cheaper.

What type of socket are you using to torque tranny bands. Mine has a 5/16" square head and I can't find anything to fit it.

When I realized the crafstaman didnt' go below 25 in lbs, I realized it's completely worthless. You need a dial / rotating style torque wrench to set the pre load anyway, clicker is pretty much useless for that. Guess it's good my neighbor works in a dealership and comes over when I need stuff like that now :finga:

Yeah I got help on my diffs. I traded a Blue Top for the local gear guy to setup my diffs and teach me. Also did a D44 and 9"... good stuff to learn.

msucase, the socket you need is a 5/16" 8pt socket. Can get it at Sears. I had to order mine, since they didn't have it at the store. Like $5-6 I think.

A click style is crap for preload... Beam Inch Lbs is needed... I have an Old School Snap-On and I just ordered a new one !

Yeah beam or dial will work. Snap-On is just too spendy for me. I go with Matco instead.

Like the Balljoint press I got, was $340 from Matco, same thing from Snap On was $500.
