Ok well i build my 1 ton steering on Monday night. It took the parts 1.5 months to arrive from EBay, you would think i live in Siberia. Any who. I’m going to apologize in advance for the crappy pic's. the digi cam was set in night vision for some of the time.

I’m not going to do any sort of in-depth write-up, everyone and there dog has done a write up on 1 ton steering and/or hydro assist.

The material i chose for my steering was 5/16th's wall 1-5/8" DOM. all the components are 3/4 ton and up. i don’t' have the part numbers right now as i am in the office but i will post them within the next few days.

here is a end view on the DOM

i don't have any construction photo's of the steering, my parents took the camera when they went out of town, all i have is the night vision shots....sorry.

notice the pitman arm TRE has a slight bend in it. it is a 1 ton TRE and it is also a high misalignment, but it comes from the factory with that bend. if you notice, the bend almost follows my drag link angle making the TRE sit in the neutral position, allows now some crazy drop.

Now for the good stuff.

2x6 hydraulic ram. I went with a 6" stroke because front end only has a 7" lateral movement and my tires rub on both ends so the ram will stop before they rub. and it wont put any extra stress on my steering knuckles.

3/8" 2 wire hose with appropriate fittings.

3/4" plate with all the brackets traced out.

i will keep you all posted and i will take some better photo's of everything when my real camera gets back.

drunk driver t-boned me at a intersection. hit my front passenger tire. his car is a write off. my ES2233L is bent and my track bar looks like a pretzel. my rim might be bent and i might need a new tire. The cops said that is i wasn't driving the truck i was i would not have walked away from a accident. i have whiplash and a masive head ach. the GF hit her head on the passenger window. we were both wearing our seat belts. the other drive hit me doing about 80MPH. The funny thing is that i know the guy. i met him one camping trip at a music festival. he attempted to flee the scene but the cops got him. and oh by the way he wasn;t wearing a seat belt and put his head through the windsheild

Speaking of hydro assist, I am planning to do the same. Does anybody have a take on the rock logic hydor assist kit? In Xtreme Offraod the advertise a complete kit with ram and hose for $220.00.

I run their kit. No problems yet. Just make sure and face the fittings in a direction that will keep them from hitting drag links etc. I jumped my jeep at EJS and the fitting contacted the drag link and the jeep started on fire. So, just a heads up :D

Also, I run one of their very first sets--since then they have improved the rod ends and the finish.

You'll never regret hydro assist---when I first added it I was like "big deal...it's not tha much different" THen when you go without it for a day, you realize just how much of a difference it really makes.

I saw the Rock Logic hyrdo assist kit also..and compared to hte redneck ram, it looks like a better bang for the buck.

If i dont have the money to go full hydro (what its looking like), then i am most likely going to do that rock logic kit.

Cody. Did you have RL tap your steering box, or did you do it? I think they charge like $130.00 to tap it. I have no clue where to begin when it comes to that.

Search the general section on Pirate. There are 3-4 good write up on where and how to do it. I was scurred the first time too.....

They tapped the first one. I broke that one, so I bought another one off of a guy for 20 bucks and it was allready tapped. My first box was better, they did something else to increase flow but I'm not sure what. I just point it at big rocks and close my eyes......

If you buy the stuff from them, tell them I sent you and/or you heard about them at GSW and they may give you a slightly better price. No guarentee's though.

just seems like a hassle. i mean the case is cast the fittings brass. can you do that?

i did a bunch of research on my time off and found out the guys that are tig welding them in are tapping the cap of the box the cap is aluminum. they tig weld because they have to use a straight tap not the tapered one to avoid cracking the aluminum. then they tig weld it instead of using a o-ring.
