Thank GOD you got a Diesel.

It befuddles me to see some jackass sitting at the pump with his 8.1 Chebby getting 6 miles to the gallon and paying 2.00+ for a gallon of gas.

I averaged 15-21 on my way to Tahoe and back. What kind of milage is that cummins getting?

What kind of milage is that cummins getting?

Don't forget Alaska that that Cummins isn't even broken in yet (usually takes about 30k-40k). I get about 14-16 towing my rig and trailer with my 2001.5 and my friend and his 2003 Cummins 6-speed gets about the same - but towing over twice my trailer weight and with an edge-ez box.

Sounds like you get great mileage - you tow with a much lighter trailer though right?

Pearce

Well it had 30 miles on it when I drove it off the lot. So its gone from 8.8 mpg to about 12 mpg and now has like 160 miles on it. This is all according to the computer. Diesel here about 2 months ago was cheaper than gas, but now Diesel is running 2.15 a gallon. Its done a flop on me. I hope it drops back the other way. And of course in GA we typically have cheaper fuel than other places anyway. Its funny, I've never owned anything over 6 cylinders. So this inline 6 feels right at home :D If I can find a trailer in the next 2 weeks to borrow I'll let you know how it does pulling. But cant afford to get one now and got no place to put it.
Thanks for the complements guys! I realy like it a lot. And as soon as I burn these tires up, 35's are going on. One step at a time though, these trucks can cost more than my Jeep to play with.

Looks sweet Pearce.

I've been looking for a tow rig / dd for a while now, but I can't take the new car plunge.

What prompted you to choose the Dodge vs the others?

Pearce

I'd rather be cummin than strokin
Real diesels are 6 cylinders
Solid front axle

All that aside, I like the size of the Dodge truck, the Ford is to big for me, the look is great, I felt price was the best bang for the buck. And this new 600 cummins seems more quite than the others, and its a 600 hp! And I'm not a big fan of Ford and Chevy anyway. Unless its using thier axles in a Jeep

But I did see the new 05 Fords are going with a huge ass radius arm style front, and manual hubs. Thats pretty sweet.

Not sure about other parts of the country, but as of a month or so ago Diesel is more expensive than premium gasoline around here (like $2.35). A friend of mine just bought one like Pearce's and needless to say he's pretty pissed off.

Kraqa- No I am not talking about you.....I had no idea you were even looking. Your a Cannuck, don't forget to look in Edmonton. That is were I got my Dmax and I got is CHEAP. Even after all the taxes were paid...

Troy- Yah my trailer is light....if a 2200 pound Heavy Equipment trailer is light....lol. Chuggy is probably what 3500 pounds....

I get about 15 with the trailer hooked. I think I got 17 with a batch of Biodeisel but that shit is to hard to find to run it all the time...(although it does run better).

I have the Banks SixGun,exhaust and homebrew intake. It is fun for showing off but in truth I rarely even bump it off level 1 or 2. Bump that bastard up to about 4 and it will embarass a Mustang pretty easy....lol.

21 mpg is on the freeway at 70mph. When I jump up to 85 it gets about 15 or do. 90 it gets about 11. I don't drive much over that.

Speed with the trailer is 68 mph. I have tried all sorts of speed ranges and 68 is the (sweet spot) with the trailer.

My dad just bought a Dodge. He loves it. Although during our trip to Moab he did admit that my Chebby rode a lot better (Felt like a car) and when we spent the day with 6 people in the Dmax he commented on how that would not happen in his Ram.

All in all they are ALL good. Just some suit others better than. Thank God there are choices.....would be a shitty world if we only had one option.

And as long as they are not gassers, your good to go in my book.

Oh and the Dmax rolled 73,000 on this latest trip.....and feels stronger now than when I bought it.

I didn't realize that is a heavy equipment trailer.

You better watch... 90 mph is approaching the speed limit of most load range e tires!

Oh I don't ever pull that fast. 68 is as fast as I usually pull. Crept up to 75 once. That was PLEANTY fast.

My MPG has been all over the place lately. I generally get about 14-17 towing--but I tow at about 75-85 mph most of the time.

I get around 13-16 around town and unloaded freeway I've been as high as 25 mpg, but it sits around 20-22 most of the time.

And diesel is 2.39 here. I just spent 80 bucks to fill my tank.

btw, the cummins 600 isn't 600 horse, it's 600 ft/lbs I think.

I am running the Yokohoma's in that size. Purely a winter tire, as they are not load rated very high. At 114 bucks each they are worth it. Sticky as hell.

I run the 265 70 r16 bft long trails. I paid 80 per tire and they are load range E. I think they look fine. My speedo is off about 5-7% with the bigger tires and it cruises nicely at about 70-75 at 2000-2200 rpm.

The 285's look nicer though .

One of the guys I work with runs the same truck, just it's the Hemi. Anyhow, he runs 35" BFG A/Ts on it without any rubbing.

Towed with it to tellico this past weekend. I was getting like 11.4 mpg. Ran great, even got to use the 4x4 to get up a steep gravel grade. Also handles well on the winding dirt road to get to the trail parking area. On the way back I was crusing 70+, great relaxing drive. Suposedly there is a flash that can be done to improve the milage. I'll check that out in a couple thousand more miles. But without towing, I get about 14.5 mpg now with my combination of highway/town driving.
From what I read part of the bump to 610 in the 05 was switching to the drive by wire. Its more finely tuned now, which has also helped shifting. And guys are also saying its more quite than the 600.

You might be right about the 35's rubbing. I've seen conflicting reports on that though as well.

Nice looking truck! I love my 04.5 CTD 600.. Minds a quad cab long bed 4x4 6 spd... Im itching to get the 35's put on it, but Im waiting till these stockers wear out. Ive got almost 12k on my truck and the mileage hovers around 19-20 freeway, and 17-18 city...

Mine is not that good YET. I hope it does though. Also I've not had the flash done to improve it. Have you on yours?
Towing on the interstate I still get around 14-15. And unloaded around town I now get 13-14 and 16-17 highway. 8000 miles on it. I found out in 4x4 high towing on slushy/icy roads averaging 40 mph I got 8-9!

Gotta love the Cummins... I have 26,000 on my '04.5 already. Depending on what I am towing I can pull close to 13-14mpg. I usually get in the 16.5-17 range empty. This winter diesel sucks though. I am guessing I am losing 1.5-2mpg because of the winter blend. I pulled a 36' enclosed tri-axle trailer to TX and back a couple weeks ago. It was like dragging a billboard down the highway. At 70-75 with the trailer empty I was only getting about 11mpg. But the trailer was 8k empty. Scaled at 16,020 with me, the truck, and the empty trailer. Add a big load into the trailer and I was getting only about 9mpg, but I was pulling just a wee bit over legal on the trip back. ;)

Just make sure you have gauges on that Cummins if you are towing much at all. Check out www.turbodieselregister.com for some really good reading on the CTD. I'm running an Edge EZ on mine and I can crank the EGT's pretty quick pulling a 2-car gooseneck with the Jeeps on the back.

Yeah, I think I read those forums more than these now. I would love to have all the goodies that can be bought for a Cummins but that money has to go toward the Jeep first then savings then if I feel I really need it, for the truck. Wouldnt take much to drop $2000 on the truck in one weekend! I'll just have to wait a few years and enjoy what I got. :D

It is scary when you start to add up the extras... I was working on my taxes the other night. Just since June when I got the truck, I have spent about $4k on extra stuff for the truck. It's all deductible, but it still hurts to think about. That would have paid for my long arms and axle brackets easily...
