OK, the jeep is no longer a DD so I have a 14-bolt, D-60 KP (both locked w/ 5.13s) and kevin's LA kit on the way. I will be running 38s and I am stroking and blowing  the 4L. So I am wondiring if the 242 w/sye will be up to the task. I don't have the SYE kit yet so was wondering if I should be looking in another dirction. The 242 was free so as of yet I have nothing invested in it. An AtlasII is not out of the question but its real, real spendy. Would a 231 be any better (than the 242) maybe with a 4:1 low? It seems a little bit like polishing a turd to use either of these two cases with the rest of my running gear. I would also consider the d300 flipped but don't know that much about it. Alaska's set up is super tight but I don't know if I'm up to the fabrication involved in that set up. But I do have all winter. I want to do it right once. Any input is appreciated.

for the cost of that SYE you could flip a d300 and be done with it.

So thats at least one vote for the 300, Hmmm. What low range does the 300 have in stock form? 2.70ish or such? Is that going to be low enough or should I go 4:1? I have driven lots of full size trucks on 40+ tires with just the axles regeared their T-cases are all 2.7something:1 pretty much. They seemed fine but then they mostly have huge ass V8s.

I know swampy runs a 231 HD out of a dodge truck. which has a chain/gears like 2x as wide as the jeep 231. should be alot cheaper than an atlas

they type of wheelin you do plays a role in this decision as well...

edit: i would not run a blower personally, just more junk to break... 4.6L stroker + cam + header = teh win

I run a 231HD w/ SYE from JB Conversions in my rig. It's the only driveline component I haven't blown up yet (seriously.)

Only cost $750 a few years ago too.

for 750 you could have a super beef d300 thats gear driven in a cast iron case. and have beer money when your done. oh and it will be twin sticked like a atlas

True, but when building, I tend to factor in what my time is worth. For me, paying $750 for a good solution that bolted right up kept me happy!

it seems that just in the past year, setting up a d300 is getting cheaper and cheaper. I'll probably sell my 231 and go d300 later on.

I know the guys at mad4wd pretty well and they are working on they're own flip kit that is supposed to be the flip kit of all flip kits. ...we'll c though.

The kind of wheeling I do most is just back woods trails, old logging roads and such, they can be pretty nar though. I used do a bit of mudding too  yeah I know (not in the jeep). But thats what people around here are into. I actually don't do any real crawling but maybe once or twice a year. I would like to do more though. One of the reasons I like the Atlas is for the parking brake you can get with it. Right now I am not going to have E-brakes with the calipers I have for the 14-bolt. But that makes it like a $1500 parking brake. I'll do some more research on the 231HD. What are my gear choices for that case. For reference I am going to be running 5.13 gears and 38s.

Louisiana you say no blower huh? I already have leach headers and full exhaust w/ free flow intake. I have a 99+ intake manifold on the way and a bigger TB. I will probably do the Hesco 4.7 stroker with their cam recomendation and ported head. I hear you on more stuff to break with the pump, plus its really expensive stuff.

if i ran mud, alot of mud a blower is not suck a bad thing if thats what your into. but i do some mud and i thing that i would rather puyt that money into a bomb proof driveline
