At this point I'm working towards being there. Got sliders/rock rails now, THANKS Rock Road Outfitters! And the wife has a new '01 WJ as her DD so I have more freedom to improve the ZJ. We'll see what life and the Jeep gods have in store. -Todd

You should be really happy with those! I got my sliders from them in the 01 raffle (via a trade with Trango) and have tortured them over and over during the last 3 years and they're the one thing that's held up that long on my Jeep!!!

It'll be in June, still ironing out the exact dates, but more than likely it will be the weekend before father's day.

At least I know there won't be any babies holding me back this year.

Of course, there is the first birthday on the 8th. So anyday except that day, please...........................................

I am not sure if my Jeep will be ready to make the trip or not, but perhaps if there are some other Ca. folks going I could grab a ride in the bitch seat.

If I don't make it out this year with my Jeep I will be out in 06 with my Jeep ready to beat the hell out of it.

Kraqa, would love to meet up with you also after all the times we have talked. I too want to put faces with the Jeeps.

Dirk, you've got your 8.8 and your hp 30 right? Whats left to do?

Cue-Ball
11-29-2004, 01:54 AM
Chase,

Yes I have the 8.8 and HP30 the 8.8 is pretty much ready to bolt in, but the HP30 is just a bare housing, I still need to send it out to get acid stripped, then paint it with POR-15, then install gears and all that, then I need to build up the 1-ton steering, shorten the track bar (over axle), purchase and install Clayton's kit, order springs, brake lines, limit straps, rebuild 242 TC, ect, ect, ect....

This is turning out to be one of the longest builds ever huh? I guess it is right at about 6-8 months right now.

Just trying to do it right one time, who knows I am now thinking of regearing everything to 4.88 and going with 35's or 36's, and maybe even bitting the bullet and going with an Atlas II.

Who knows, I am going to get with the accountant first part of next year and put together a real budget for this thing and get a little more aggressive with it.

But hey if you go I will ride along with you.

I will probably end up driving out, but it would be nice to tow it. D60's,LA's, coilovers. Jeep should be done here in the next month or so, i hope. Has to be done before the first weekend of March, "TDS".. Just have small parts to gather, drive shafts, brake lines, and figure out the swaybars

You have a great driver, just need the magic line. :D

I was a little bummed this year, the 8 rigs in our group only got to spend 10 minutes on rocker knocker :D :D :D

seriously considering making the drive from the east part of NC. After seeing Matt's video it really looked like something i want to do. Alls I have left to do to "get ready" is the 8.8 w/ 4.56's and the HD steering. I'm ready to see what Moab has to offer. :D

whats the word on registering....do we need to or just show up at the appointed time. Also, this will be my first GS so what are some "must haves" like CBs, spare parts etc. Sorry for the noob style Qs

There will be a web page and registration announcement made in the future. For now you can search here and at NAGCA. Look at the old posts for the GSW forum and you will find tons of info. BigDave may even be able to chime in with some basic requirements.

Enjoy.

David.

Yes, you can camp either in a campground or out in the middle of nowhere. Quite a few people camp.

Are you running 35's? Don't listen to that shit, bring some extra parts. It is probably still open anyways. I think you will be fine, I ran 35's for like 2 years on my 35c and beat on it some. Only thing that broke was the upper control arm mounts of the unibody and the trackbar bracket.

I would recommend one of the campgrounds in town. There are a number of different ones available. The only one I've personally stayed at was Canyonlands and it was pretty decent and was real close to the staging area. Check out this link, there are a bunch listed on it.

The 35s are coming off for the moment and the 32s are going back on...I think my lift is only about 5" right now cuz the 35s rub like bastards even at moderate flex...plus the blazer is about to be alive again and i need the 35s for it..
