YAY! It only took about an hour since I didn't have to put any bends in it. Thank GOD for that... .25 wall 1.5" OD doesn't bend too well with a JD2.

No "Z" bend in my track bar anymore so hopefully it won't flex. QA1 kevlar/teflon Heim joint, so that's taken care of. I made that little bushing with crap I had laying around  but it works! Now... time to install it, but I can't drive to Tractor Supply for bolts because I don't have a track bar. I guess I'll get over it 8)

LIVING ROOM? Pshh... I'd get shot. That was the hallway, though :D That's as far as I can get into the house with anything born in the garage.

How far forward is your axle? I have to have a bend or it hits my differential truss, but it would hit the pumpkin even if it wasnt there. And the trackbar mount is as far forward on the axle as I want it.

JD- Not to be an ass but I think you should turn your welder up a little. Doesn't look like you were getting real good penetration with your spott weld technique. It is better to just run a bead and not spot if you can.

Front axle is 3.5" forward of the stock location. I cycled everything, it clears just fine. I thought i was going to have to put a small bend in it, but I tested and found that I didn't. Bending that tube would have been a BITCH.

Alaska, I had as much heat as I could put on it without shinkage. 18 volts and 240 ipm wire speed. I was trying not to shrink that tube insert. I've done that multiple times, and it's no fun fucking up a 10 dollar part each time.

so anyone got some tips on how to weld those inserts without shrinkage? Besides welding a small amount and dunking it in some water, I dont see how you can just run a bead? 2 of mine shrunk and I just cannot find 7/8-18 taps anywhere.

some fab shops sell them with expanded threads near the weld (or some crap like that) basically the shrinkage is accounted for....mine haven't given me any trouble...

poly claims theres account for the shrinking on there web site i think. Haven't tried them but i will shortly so i'l let you know. and yes I wouldn't spot weld on a track bar insert.

I have the poly performance ones, and there definitely was shrinkage  . I unfortunetly was pretty sure I was using the least amount of power that I could while still getting good penetration. Im going to give them one more try.

although 18 seems prity low heat for that. i would probably weld them at 19 min. but thats me. i run hot with lots of wire and move fast.

I wouldn't spot weld them either, considering this is a spot welder: http://www.lawson-his.co.uk/images/SIP/02945.jpg

And the insert that I welded in only has three tacks. The rest are full welds.

And to whoever posted "I'll just dunk it in water" you just go ahead and do that LOL. I'd advise against doing it, though!

ok i assumed everyone would understand what i mean by spot welding them, not actually spot swleding them but welding with a bunch of tacks.

:D I know what you meant. And there aren't a bunch of tacks. Those are the three post-bead tacks that I did to mend the three beads. "Crack kills"

just cause I mentioned it before, I did my new poly performance inserts and had no issues. preheated, tacked, 4 seperate welds, tried the TRE after each weld, work great. 3/50 on the Millermatic
